Maybe get stronger students to draw a concept map for a topic, and then have weaker students fill in the blanks based on what their friends have done?

This allows stronger students to take ownership of their learning earlier and provides an example for weaker peers to model after?

Yes. Students can learn and practice routines that builds their competencies in taking ownership and move up the SOLO Taxonomy. E.g use of self checking rubrics. Providing alternative assessment might also be a possibility where e.g. 2 sets of questions or tasks with different difficulty levels are provided (D.I.) and students are required to select the task that they think is appropriate for their level. Students are given the same end goal put move towards it via different route

I believe with the right amount of rigour, it is possible to encourage learners to take ownership of their own learning. It also means that teachers need know their students’ current level of understanding in order to determine what is the next steps and whether the students are confident to take on the challenge.

For math, the use of concept maps and imagery will guide learners to generate ideas and form connections, hence encourage the learners to move up the SOLO taxonomy.
