By signing this pact Hitler avoided many threats including a major two front war. For Stalin he was allowed to expand Soviet rule over the Baltic states. It permitted both Germany and Russia to have an influence in eastern Europe because they pledged to not attack one another.

This was the first test to really see it the League could do anything to prevent it. The League could not prevent this from occurring.

It was a succesful strategy for Adolf Hitler to show to the rest of Europe that Germany wanted Sudeland and to show Germany's powers to the rest of the world.
