The ice is getting smaller and larger and since it's stuck in one spot it cracks and buckles. That creates vibrations and those vibrations travel across the lake through the ice.  The vibrations create sound.

But there are still hardships. One of the biggest threats during the winter is fish can suffocate. In the winter the lake is covered with ice and that cuts off oxygen. And if the ice is covered with snow, there's no sunlight. The plants start dying and the stop producing oxygen and start consuming. But fish keep breathing so the oxygen gets lower and lower. It can get so low that all the fish will die because there is no oxygen, and all the plants will also die.
