It has to do with the ice expanding and contracting (warming or cooling) so more sounds happen as the temperature is changing a lot. The ice is getting smaller and larger and since it's stuck in one spot it cracks and buckles. That creates vibrations and those vibrations travel across the lake through the ice. The vibrations create sound.
Abby D

The only reason why fish can make it through the whole winter is because the ice is only on the top and the water is the colder water on top is and the warm on the bottom and its oppisite in the summer because the warm is one top and the cold is on the bottom but the cold on the top makes it so the ice float and the ice helps the fish by saving them from predators.

Ice keeps fish warmer and keeps them safe from predictors. But there are still hardships. One of the biggest threats during the winter is fish can suffocate. In the winter the lake is covered with ice and that cuts off oxygen. And if the ice is covered with snow, there's no sunlight. The plants start dying and the stop producing oxygen and start consuming. But fish keep breathing so the oxygen gets lower and lower. It can get so low that all the fish will die because there is no oxygen, and all the plants will also die.
Abby D
