1. Based your reading of Chapter 3, was Walter McMillian given a fair trial? Do you think race played a part in the outcome of Walter's trial?

2. Do you think race still plays a part in the Criminal Justice system today? How much of the time (what percentage)? Where?...In Rancho Cucamonga? In the State of California? In other regions/parts of the United States? The United States, as a whole?

1. Walter McMillian was not given a fair trial because the trial was held in the whitest region of Alabama. In our belief, race did play a part in the outcome because a vast majority of the court were white people. Hardly any of them were black. The only ones who were black were Walter's family and some of the neighbors.

2. Race doesn't play a part in the Criminal Justice system all the time because slavery is gone and we're all equal. It occasionally happens approximately 40% of the time. This happens in the United States because all states have their methods of pushing people back from what they want to do.

1. No, we do not think that Walter McMillian was given a fair trial because the judge specifically choose a place where it was only 9% black and where it was conservative. We think race does play a part in the outcome of Walter's trial because the whole time they called him racial slurs, especially during his arrest which indicates that it was about his race. 2. We think race does play a part in the justice system today because there are people that are innocent but are still convicted because of their race. 3. We think it is about 25% of the time that this happens. We think that this happens in the US as a whole because it depends on the people who are the judge and convicting the person and whether they are racist/biased or not.

1.No, his trial was not fair, the witnesses did not have good, solid information and they didn't even actually see Walter do anything. Also the entire Jury was white which caused them to have their own opinions based on the color of Walter.2. Yes, race played a huge part in everything to do with his trial and most of the unfairness in his case was due to the color of his skin.3 I think that racial discrimination does occur in some stages of justice processing, some of the time, and in some places, and that small differences in treatment accumulate across the criminal justice system.4. I think that it is a small percentage and that the criminal justice system now goes off of the law more than opinions on skin color.5. I think that our country doesn't act as a hole and that our country is divided on political views and opinions.

1.) I think that the police should have investigated Walter McMillan's case more before putting him on death row. I do think race played a role in his trail, there being more white jury's affected the outcome of his trial.

2.) I do believe race still plays a role in the Criminal Justice System today. I do think that in certain parts of the United States, the amount of racial discrimination is different. Racial discrimination in the Criminal Justice System is usually worse in more white or conservative area in the US.

1. Walter McMillian was not given a fair trial at all. The evidence was fake and did not make sense. There were many more witnesses that were on Walter's side than against him. Many proved that he was at the church but only two people said he was at the gas station. 2. Race did play a part in the outcome as soon as he was moved to a court with almost an all-white jury. 3. Race does play a part in the Criminal Justice system sometimes. It depends on the jury if they are the type of person to favor races and dislike some. Now with today's law, it shouldn't happen that often and many of the juries are fair and equal. - Alex Ho

Based on my reading of chapter 3 I think it wasn't such a fair trial for McMillian. I don't think it was a fair trial because for one they decided to put the trial in a place with 94% white people, this will greatly change the outcome for McMillian.

I think That Walter McMillian Didn't get a fair trial because his race gave him a low advantage and people saw him as a threat, And yes I do Think that Walter's race had something to do with his trial. I think that it depends who the person is judging, like it can be a nice judge who doesn't care about color or race or there can be a judge that just judges a book by its cover and automatically thinks the person is guilty Race doesn't play a part in the Criminal Justice system all the time because slavery is gone and we're all equal.
