Plan the set up of a tinkering corner within your classroom. What materials will you include? How will the materials be used?

The tinkering corner will be as shown in picture 1 with open shelves and the shelves are placed beside each other. In the centre near the shelves, there will be a wooden table and chairs, as shown in picture 2, for the children to sit and make use of the loose parts or recycled materials to create something based on the theme. The materials I will include are buttons, twigs, bottle caps made of plastic and metal, pull tabs from cans, wine corks, sea shells, ice cream sticks, beads, pebbles, ribbon/ tape/ thread spools and toilet paper core. Each material will be kept in transparent containers for children to see easily. The materials can be used for counting whereby children can write numbers on the toilet paper core and insert the number of ice cream sticks, twigs or any materials provided as indicated on the toilet paper core. The sea shells, beads, buttons can be used for creating patterns, forming letters or to do up art pieces. Children can do sorting based on the type of materials like plastic, metal, and wood with bottle caps, pull tabs, wine corks and ribbon/ tape/ thread spools.
