"Annual mean wage of athletes and sports competitors, by area, May 2018"
Observations:
1. The CO metropolitan area has a higher share of sports industry employment than average.
2. Most of the top paying metropolitan areas for the sports industry lies on the east coast of America.

Inference:
1. The CO metropolitan area will suffer economically because of its heavy dependence on the sports industry for revenue.
2. Because the Location Quotient in the CT metropolitan area is very high, the annual mean wage is lower than the other top paying areas; higher employment, lower wages.

Questions:
1. Why does the CO metropolitan area rely so much on the sports industry?
2. Why are most of the top paying metropolitan areas for the sports industry on the east coast of America?

Interesting:
1. The annual mean wage for those working in the sports industry in CO is higher than the annual wage for a Dentist
2. The CT metropolitan area has the highest Location Quotient than the other 9 areas.

"Employment of athletes and sports competitors, by state, May 2018"
Observations:
1. As of May 2018, Florida has the highest sports industry employment out of all 50 states.
2. California has the highest annual mean wage for sports industry workers out of the other 4 highest employment level states.

Inferences:
1. Florida will also go through economic hardships because the large amount of employment in the sports industry will have no work (due to COVID-19 closures).
2. California is able to pay sports industry workers their high annual mean wage because there is little employment in their state per thousand jobs.

Questions:
1. Why does Arizona have roughly half the employment level as Florida, but a higher employment level per thousand jobs?
2. Why can't Arizona release their estimated annual mean wage for sports industry workers?

Interesting:
1. The graph of employment by states is somehow more spread out across the country than the graph of employment by area.
2. Arizona has a high Location Quotient despite having an employment level of 580.

"Annual mean wage of elementary school teachers, except special education by area, May 2018"
Observations:
1. The Northeastern section of America is dense will annual mean wages of $62,000 and above.
2. The Central states of America seems to have the lower annual mean wages compared to the Western and Eastern states.

Inferences:
1. Teachers make less annual mean wages than sports industry workers because the level of employment for teachers is higher than theirs.
2. The NY-NJ-PA has so many elementary teachers employed because their populations are very large.

Questions:
1. What does special education have to do with this data? And how would it alter the graph?
2. Why does Alaska have high annual mean wages for elementary school teachers like California and New York?

Interesting:
1. California has a lot of metropolitan areas with elementary schools.
2. The Location Quotients of top paying metropolitan areas for elementary school teachers are closer to 1 than sports industry workers.

In terms of supply and demand, a higher paying job would attract more workers and, therefore, would decrease the labor demanded by employers. Conversely, a low paying job would attract less people and increase employers’ demand for labor. This leads to wage inequality because certain jobs are more demanded than others, causing the wage for the more demanded job to increase.

I can infer that the states in light blue paying an annual wage range of $36,000-$52,000 most likely don’t have that many sports teams.

Questions:

1. Do more than half the states not employ athletes and sports competitors or are their annual wages just all below $36,000?

2. Why only in 6 states do athletes make $78,000-$183,110, which seems to be the highest range?

Interesting:

1. I don’t know anything about sports so I find it interesting that a state as small as Rhode Island has an annual wage in the second highest range of $67,000-$76,000.

2. I find it interesting that California isn’t the top paying state since it’s the state with the most professional sports teams.

Annual mean wage of elementary school teachers except special education by state, May 2018

Observations:

1. New York is one of the states that pays the highest annual wage range of $65,000-$83,000.

2. No states in the middle of the country pay the highest annual wage, only the ones on the east and west coast do.

Inferences :

1. I can infer that more funding in education which includes paying the teachers is more on the coasts than the middle states.

2. I can infer that the states with the highest annual wage have more funding in education due to having more schools to provide for.

Questions:

1. Why do the schools in the middle states possibly not have enough funding?

2. How come Alaska pays the highest range of annual wage of $65,000-$83,000?

Interesting:

1. I find it interesting that Alaska is one of the states within the highest annual wage range.

2. It’s interesting that California has the most elementary school teachers employed, 162,000, but is the third highest annual wage below Massachusetts with 30,380 employed.

Employment of elementary school teachers except special education by state, May 2018

Observations:

1. Most states on the east coast have a high employment level between 600-5,000.

2. The data is correlated to the population density in each state.

Inferences :

1. I can infer that since California and Texas have the highest employment level, they also have the highest annual wage. (This is based just on the map and not the chart which proves this inference wrong).

2. I can infer that the states with less employment levels are due to having less elementary schools or not enough funding.

Questions:

1. Why don’t the employment levels match the annual mean wage?

2. In a state like Texas, with a high number of employment but a lower annual wage, do the teachers get paid less or does the state in general have a lower wage?

Interesting:

1.Texas is the second highest employment of elementary school teachers, but it doesn't pay the highest range of annual wage.

2. Alaska is within the lowest range of employment between 600-5,000 but is within the highest range of highest annual wage.
