At greely, they have to take health class during the sophomore year (3e in France). It's a class like the others : they get grades, like in maths or english.

They have two different types of day, the maroon one and the white one (colors of the school). They alternate every day. For example, if Monday is a maroon day we will have certain classes, and the next time we will have theses classes is on the next maroon day, which means the Wednesday. Moreover, the advisory (Monday, Thursday) modifies the schedule too. There are 3 lunch possible (on the chart, it is the block "3"), it depends on which class a person will have next. To sum up, the schedule is kind of different every day.

Here's a picture of the inside of a classroom. First thing we can notice is the flag : every room has one (classrooms, cafeteria and even the guidance office). At the beginning of school, at 7:50AM, they have a student recite the 'pledge allegiance'. Students have the option to stand up and recite it . Next, for the classes themselves, they are quite different from France. They last between 1h15 to 1h27. Instead of Pronote, they use Google Classroom. They have everything on it, that is why we spent most of the class on it : the students take their laptop out and work on schoolwork. Therefore, we write much less and we have less books. On the other hand, almost every work we do gets graded (we have to send everything, even the few exercises we don't do on our laptop). Also, I noticed that when a teacher talks, no one is taking notes. But he doesn't tell us what to write either. The student's behavior is really different too : they can eat, drink, keep their hat on and get out of class whenever they want without asking. They just have to sign a little notebook to say where they go and when. The students can also keep headphones in even during class.

Busses

In addition to the fact they're yellow, there are other differences between American and French busses. First, school busses are free here, students don't have to pay to take the bus everyday. The bus picks up middle school and high school students. It starts by picking up students from middle school (close to the high school). Also, there are no seatbelts in it : there aren't seats, they are more like benches.

This is a locker from Greely. They are not very different from the ones in France. They are a little bit bigger and have coat hangers. At the beginning of the year, they all have one assigned but not that many people really use them. For example, Cora's locker is far way from her usual classes so she's using somebody else's, and the person didn't even notice.

Saturday the 27th of January, we went to see Cora’s concert. It was the district 2 chorus concert. It was at the highschool of Windham.

This is the Portland head light. This is one of the lighthouses of Portland : there are 5 of them. It's the most photographed lighthouse in the entire world.

At Greely, they have a big room called auditorium or GCA (Greely Center for the Arts). For example, last Thursday, a person came to talk about mental health : all of the highschool was in that room listening to the person. In France, we usually have that in the "salle polyvalente" : it is kind of the same but this is much bigger (more than 500 seats). Concerts or plays can also be played in there (like when we went to see Cora's concert, it was the Windham auditorium).

Aquarium of Boston ! 02/21

On Wednesday February 21st, we went to Boston and we started the day by going to the aquarium. There was a big fish tank in the middle shaped like a cylinder, with many levels of stairs around it : it was so beautiful. In it, there were so many fish, each one so different from another.
