                                                                                                  The Historical Place in Ho Chi Minh City
     The picture shows the Central Post Office of Ho Chi Minh City, the second largest city in Vietnam. It is one of the oldest buildings and is one of the city's icons, built between 1886 and 1891 based on the design of a famous French architect named Gustave Eiffel, designer of Eiffel Tower, Paris.
     The Central Post Office is located in District 1, Paris Commune Street No.2. It is located near Diamond Pizza, a big shopping venue in Ho Chi Minh City and Notre Dame Cathedral, an ancient church with beautiful architecture. The three buildings together make it a popular area in District 1, for foreigners to visit.
     The design, a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and French influences, fascinates visitors with its typical colonial French features, from exterior to interior decorations. The building is ornamented beautifully, from its gorgeous-pattern-tiled floor to its massively high ceilings and numerous wickets. The interior design is even more elegant with the phone booths, identical to that of the colonial period. There are also two maps, describing Ho Chi Minh City of the past and showing the postal route from Vietnam to Cambodia. The building inside is big and airy with a lot of space. The ceiling was designed in the shape of an arc shape, supported by two rows of steel pillars, which make the building look grander and more stable.
     The Central Post Office has long been the busiest post office of the country. It opens from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., to post letters and parcels. For sightseeing however, the building may be accessible until later in the day and it's free.
