         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Curran &amp; Seaton:</strong> Papers create content that their audience wants too see to meet demand and make money. Therefore, papers are representative of societies views and the dominant ideology. Could also mean that the audience controls papers.<br><strong>Hall</strong>: As an audience we must decode messages that the media has included for us to see and hear <br><strong>Van Zoonen:</strong> we learn gender roles and performance through the media. News only tend to represent essential femininity and not the rich and broader roles.<br><strong>Gilroy:</strong> Imperialism and colonial history affects the way multicultural societies are represented in the media<br><strong>Strauss: </strong>Binary opposites form the basic structure of all human cultures. In every binary pair one is favored and one is disfavored. E.g I know I'm a man because I'm not a woman.<br><strong>Barthes: </strong>Uses of denotation and connotation combined make ideology. It is subtly conveyed through signs: the signifier and the signified.</div>]]></description>
