Pennsylvania was also a major supplier of troops including 8,612 colored troops, 14,307 sailors, 217 infantry regiments and much more. Pennsylvania was an important supplier of goods Artillery, muskets, equipment, uniforms, navy side ships, ammunition, grain, fruit, and meat. 80% of iron that was used for railroads and ironclads was from Pennsylvania.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Confederates were trying to gain more ground north after winning the battle of Chancellorsville. The Union was trying to protect Gettysburg and more land north of that.</p><p>The Union defeated the Confederates in this battle. The battle was important because it caused the Confederates to retreat after the win in Chancellorsville.This was known as one of the bloodiest wars in the Civil War resulting in 51,112 casualties Union-23,049 Confederate-28,036.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>President Lincoln created a ceremony to dedicate a cemetery to the 50,000 that died or were wounded in the battle. He believed that this battle was a test on whether the democratic government could survive. Lincoln also stated the fact that "all men were created equal" promoting that the African Americans were important to the nation too. The speech was 10 sentences long and 3 minutes long and was known as an iconic speech in American history.</p>]]></description>
