The common theme in the Lottery and Hangman is nothing will change if no one will do anything about it. The hangman says that, "And he laid his hand on the one's arm, And we shrank back in quick alarm, And we gave him way, and no one spoke Out of the fear of his Hangman's cloak. The Lottery states, " Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her. 'It isn't fair,' she said. A stone hit her on the side of the head.

In "The Hangman" the author uses the words, "buckshot eyes." It gives more detail about the character. Buckshot means rough and thorough, so this gives the imagery of rough and tough eyes. This develops the character as a rough/tough person, as he probably glares a lot, and his eyes obviously intimidate the people of the town. In "The Lottery" the author writes, "The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green." This shows extreme peace and nature of the setting, and sets the mood to be happy, making you want to read more, to find out why there is such peace and quiet during a lottery.

i would like to compare and contrast with what cooper said and what Katie said. I think both are important because they both have a proper reason why there is not any specific things in the setting. Katie points out how it is not a real event and cooper says that it could distract from the real theme.

I honk that that people old have stayed alive and they would have a stronger relationship between their community. I agree with Jonah because we both think that more people would have lived if they would have stood up for what’s right. I agree with Makayla because of people now a day don’t stand up for what’s right and this can strongly relate to these stories and how people loose their life’s because people don’t stand up for what’s right. What are all of the outcomes that could have happened if people would have stood up for what’s right? Would they have had a better bond/ relationship between each other in the community if they stood up for what’s right?
