This was a presidential election with 4 candidates that were Stephen A Douglass, John Bell, Abraham Lincoln and John Breckenridge. The issue they were debating over was mainly slavery which was a very controversial topic during this time between the North and South. Lincoln gained lots of recognition in the North because of his debate against Douglass and in the South none at all. He thought violence was the solution to solve this issue of slavery and terminate it. The John Brown's raid of 1859 was a raid of Harper's Ferry to start a slave rebellion to help the enslaved people and destroy slavery. Unfortunately, the raid was unsuccessful which resulted him and his men being captured and executed. On April 12, 1861 just before sunrise a shell exploded above Fort Sumter which resulted to be the first shot fired in the American Civil War and marked to be just the beginning. Abraham Lincoln decided to send supplies to the first in the South. After a while, the confederate army attacked the Union Army since the North refused to lave the fort.
