" In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed." Abraham used a serious yet confident tone when saying this statement meaning, nothing will ever stop or come to a fault until it has been resolved or passed.

Abraham Lincoln's language he uses in his speech has an effect on his tone because they both work together to give a strong and supportive argument across. His tone that he puts across in the speech is calming but also informative since he's trying to convince people that slavery will tear the nation apart. In his famous quote "A house divided against itself cannot stand." He's saying that this nation as long as we don't agree cannot be together.

I believe that Abraham Lincoln uses very formal language and that he is very professional with what he says in his speech by saying " I do not expect the Union to be dissolved-I do not expect the house to fall-but I do expect it will cease to be divided."(8,Lincoln). What he means by that is he thinks that if the situation is not taken care of then the Union will then be divided. He keeps it simple and its not alarming to the audience.

The effect of the language in the tone is because he is serious about his belief. He is being serious about his speech because he wants his audience to get a better understanding of what he is trying to explain, " I do not expect the Union to be dissolved - I do not expect the house to fall - but I do expect it will cease to divide" ( 8). The tone of Abraham Lincoln could show confidence and seriousness. He wants the people to know that he is serious about his opinion. He is also very thorough about his word choice but is also short on his sentence. The reasons why he does this is because he doesn't want his audience to get bored of what he is saying but he just wants the speakers to know what he thinks is right.

Abraham Lincoln's tone in the story is serious and he is getting straight to the point. The effect of the language on the tone is that he doesn't want people to get bored reading it so he has short sentences and kinda big words to not make the speech long. Based on his tone, he is confident and serious on what he wants and his beliefs. In paragraph 9, he says, "It will become all one thing or all the other" This proves that he want to be serious.
