Once you have created your central post with your topic, each person in your group needs to contribute an example of where this topic appears in the novel (be sure to leave your name on the post). Once you have a collection of examples, from there begin discussing theme statements. Add your theme statement to the center of your web.

In one of their conversations Marji says "God, give me more time. I am not quite ready yet." and God responds with "Yes you are celestial light, you are my choice, my last and best choice." Marji wants to be a prophet of God and is very devoted and practices religion heavily. She holds God close with her and has a good relationship with him.

Her and "God" have conversations in which she keeps them from her family because she believes it's not a problem. This religion is private and personal for her. It is important to her and it influences her but no one else believes what she is talking about when it comes to her and God's conversations.

In the chapter called The Trip on page 37 there is evidence of fear when they are at a protest and things get violent. It says “for the first time in my life i saw violence with my own eyes” and then Marji screams “dad” because she is scared. Later it says “that’s our last demonstration” because they were all so scared and fearful they didn’t ever want to experience that again. Another time there was evidence of fear was when Marji was confronted by the lady that was a loyalist that tried to get Marji in trouble because of the way she dressed because she wasn’t dressed the way they were told to dress. This caused her so much fear that she cried.
