For my interviewee, she struggled with managing her time and over-committing and then being even further unable to manage her time because she was trying to do too much and unable to keep up with work. For her online learning experiences, time management was her biggest challenge, so I recommend that she spend a week tracking her time closely so that she knows where she's really spending her time and is able to divvy that time up better. Further, I recommend that she schedule all assignments out in her planner or in a calendar by at least two weeks so she knows what to expect and hopefully that will help with over-committing.

My interviewee, Rusty struggles with low vision and feels disconnected. Low vision makes face-to-face and online courses a struggle even with disability accommodations. Starting on assignments early would help with the stress level of having enough time to find help with reading textbooks. Rusty also feels disconnected with teachers and peers in online learning. My advise to Rusty is to use a free online test to speech tool for all his readings such as assignment instructions, pdf’s, etc. Another tip is to set up a video conference call with your instructor the first week of school and discuss what is expected so that you know if there is any other disability arrangement that needs to be made.

As an online educator, good schedule represents productivity. For online learners, we may have many online courses per semester. Many online courses may have the same due day. Our brain could not remember all the due day correctly. Therefore, making personalized scheduling system will bring convenience for our online learners. When we enter all the course schedule electronically, online learners can easily keep track of every assignment. We can enter personalized schedule through App or other platforms.

From a teaching aspect, group projects are highly beneficial, although it is understandable that in an online venue they create realistic challenges. One tactic would be to review the class syllabus early on and identify what demands will be made down the line, and get proactive. If you have the flexibility to choose your group, do it early on instead of waiting. If you are assigned a group, reach out to them as soon as possible to get the ball rolling. What has worked best for me, although it ends up being exhausting and time-consuming, is to take a leadership role so that I feel in control of the work produced, and in essence, my grade.

There are hundreds of tools available. One of the tools I like that is specific to students is called My Study Life. It is designed for class schedules and has a todo list feature that allows you to set levels of being done rather than just crossing things off the list when you have them done. It does have an iOS and Android app to go along with it as well.

Val Cervantes

I have found that having a positive relationship and creating a community with my classmates is extremely beneficial. Although reaching out to the professor is always a good place to start when there is a question, I have found it comforting to also be able to reach out to my peers. They are in the same situation as me and can sometimes rephrase what I'm confused about in a way that makes more sense to me, or even just make me feel better to know that I'm not alone in my struggles :)

In discussing with my interviewee, we both decided that having a community within the class has been the one thing that has helped us be most successful this semester so far. Because of that, I'd recommend the 2 tools I've been using most to help me connect with my community, though they seem like too-common and not as tech savvy tools: Apple Messages, and Facebook.

Olivia Romero Campa

Printing out the assignment expectations has always helped me. It gives me a sort of check list to mark off parts that I've completed. I also write dates in my planner. I love using technology and my phone/computer (I've used Google Keep occasionally) but I feel like to stay organized I just need to write it down. I use my teaching planner to write these in so that I can help balance my time. This helps me see if I can get things done on a certain night or if I have to change it.
