Stalin had set a multitude of goals consistently based around the domination of the Soviet Union and preserving both the country's power and his powers. The book states "Stalin's postwar goals were security for himself, his regime, his country, and his ideology, precisely in that order" (Gaddis 11). Stalin wanted to take over the European territory. The biggest thing that Stalin wanted postwar was conservation of power.

Stalin has several goals for postwar, first of all he wanted to expand/take over the European continent, and he also wanted to preserve the Soviet Union and the power that he held within the country.

In 1949, China was under new leadership. Mao Zedong formed the People's Republic of China. Zedong was a die hard communist, and was more than ready to ally with the Soviet Union. Zedong did this for a few reasons; one being the Marxism- Leninist ideology, Stalin also gave Zedong the blueprint for leading China the way he intended, and Zedong felt heavily betrayed by the Americans. China joining with the Soviets, gave the Soviets a second front. In which China would work in the west, and the Soviet Union would work in the East.

in Korea the Americans were occupying the south of korea to later invade Japan's home Island which never happened but the USSR was planning to invade manchuria and ended up in north Korea. after a while they agreed on the 38th parallel to split the two sides but there was still no full Korea government. the south held elections for their leader the north did not, but they both claimed to be the legitimate government.

In Korea a war was going on between the North and South sides of the country. The Soviet Union saw this as an opportunity to expand their army, while the USA simply wanted to avoid communism spreading into other countries.

During this time, North Korea invaded South Korea with the prodding of Stalin. The South continuously looked for America to support them and aid them, while the North was backed up by the Soviet Union with their sights set on expanding their borders and also their political values.

The psychological impact of the development of nuclear weapons on government and leaders revolved around the fact that these weapons could bring either compromise or destruction. To employ the use of one of these bombs, the government and/or the leaders would be severely impacted, the results of the bomb would not only affect the nation that received the bomb, but also the nation that dropped the bomb.

The Korean War was unique in the regards for nuclear war, because now both sides of the war possessed the means and the matter to use nuclear power.

There were several treaties and Agreements that were signed and put into place, to restrict the uses and possession of nuclear weapons in times of war and in times of peace. There was the Limited Test Ban Treaty, the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty, the Strategic Arms Limitation Interim Agreement, and lastly the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.

Having nuclear weapons gave everyone on both sides some reassurance since having them meant they could be used. They also brought fear to the enemy side.

North Korea and South Korea, while supposedly one government, were both divided. North Korea was influenced by the USSR to invade South Korea. The USSR was under the impression that America would not interfere and could easily take over South Korea. However, as North Korea began their invasion America quickly jumped to the aid of South Korea in an attempt to prevent the Soviet Union from gaining even more power.

The Berlin War was built to keep West and East Berlin separate, overall it was to keep the East Berlin citizens from escaping to the West side. East Berlin built the wall to prevent the spread of people and "western" ideas/values/influences, wanted to keep the eastern communist state ways.
