Generally, I find sunset paintings very appealing and enjoyable. They can evoke a sense of serenity in me which is imbued by how the sun casts its final rays across the horizon, creating a warm glow that bathes the surrounding landscape and shimmers the surface of the water. It also reminds me of the fleeting moments of beauty and encourages me to appreciate the present. I believe that these artworks serve as windows to moments of natural splendor and inspire a sense of awe and appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.

This piece of art appeals to me as I think that the way the sky is drawn is interesting. the sky, stars and crescent and drawn in a circular swirly style which to me shows that the starry night is very calm, quiet and peaceful such that wind movements can be seen. Also, I enjoy looking at stars in the night sky hence the title of this art piece itself has drawn my attention. When I look at this painting, it gives me the feeling of serenity due to the large amount of blues used in this painting and it contributes to why this artwork appeals to me.

I loved to stare at the starry night. However, in today’s metropolis, seeing the stars again has become a quixotic dream. The Starry Night by Van Gogh brought me back to the past, when there were no hustle and bustle of modern cities but tranquility of nature. Van Gogh used countless short and thickly applied brushstrokes to portrait the whirling nebulae and a kaleidoscopic view of the night sky, which could seldom be seen in today’s world. I like the painting, just as how badly I miss the old days.

The Starry Night resonates with me emotionally. The dark-blue colour scheme conveys a sense of loneliness and depression. Although I am neither feeling lonely nor depressed, the painting gives me a sense of serenity. While the flame-like cypress tree at the foreground of the night scene may symbolises despair or dealth, the glittering stars at the back gives me hope.

The Starry Night triggers my curiosity about the artist. It makes me wonder what was he feeling/thinking when he was painting the art work, and prompts me to discover more about the history behind the art work.

Art, defined as "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power".
The diction "visual" seems to suggest art being something that one can view, analyse, through our sense of sight. So then, is art, only art, when it has been seen by others, validated by the public or possibly earned some monetary gains from such? Is something only considered to have artistic expression and value once it has been gone through the eyes of society? And is art not subjective? As an "expression of one's emotions and thoughts", will one's taste and preferences not vary and differ between another, rendering pieces of art constantly vulnerable to deceptively objective yet ultimately a personalised evaluation of such works? Already, the act of slapping price tags on artworks that proclaims one artistic prose better than another, vociferously implies an existence of a standard of comparison, and for what it does, seems to reduce an artist "creative skill and imagination" to one that of basest capitalist heuristic indicators. So if under this system, if I am somehow able to sell a picture of myself for more than US$450.3 million, the most amount paid for an artwork according to Wikipedia, it can be considered to be the most valued, ergo, the most appealing form of artwork. Thank you.

Personally i believe art is a way to express one’s feelings and thoughts, and maybe affection, towards a scenery, another human, or even a situation.
Hence keeping a painting as realistic and simplistic as possible brings out the most sincere part of the artists’ feelings and thoughts.
One can always wonder what went through an artists’ mind when creating his piece, was he looking at the object as a mere reference, or was this ‘object’ one that he admired so much so as to put his hands on a canvas to paint their beauty?
Circling back to my point of keeping it as realistic as possible, as it shows how the artist admires the most real parts of the objects and does not have to change any part of it for it to be a masterpiece in his eyes.
Of course, this piece might not have anything of such significance and the artist had just drawn this girl simply out of creativity. However, who is to say he had not drawn this portrait out of mere admiration and love for the pearl earring, so much so he created a whole persona for it?
Or could it have been the other way round, focusing on the girl and adding a simple pearl earring to emphasise her beauty that he would’ve thought to be incomparable to the beauty of that pearl?
By keeping the painting so simple it focuses on the pearl earring, (or maybe the girl) which he even highlights in the very self-explanatory title.

Such vague and direct nature of the painting makes it so intriguing, and thus why it appeals to me.

Music is a form of art as well and various ideas and thoughts can be shared through it. It appeals to me most because rather than just seeing it as I would with a painting, when a piece is performed, I can listen to it and feel the emotions expressed through the dynamics of the piece—whether it is played loudly or softly, fast or slow. Different instruments play together to form a beautiful harmony. In this particular piece, there are moments where the tempo is extremely fast, and the whole orchestra plays with all their might to convey a sense of chaos while sometimes it is suddenly quiet, with a gentle melody playing to show the drastic change in atmosphere that is present in Tiong Bahru according to Eric Watson.

Earth is so intricately beautiful and there isn't many words to adequately describe it. To me, it is the perfect description of Art, of creation because creation comes from the phrase "Creatio ex nihilo", and the creator of earth indeed had created something out of nothing. Our planet defines what Art means.
