Germinal Stage:
This stage begins at conception and the zygote begins to move towards the uterus. The zygote may take up to week to complete this journey and begins to divide. Only about half of zygotes progress past the cell division stage.Once there are eight cells the cells begin to differentiate and multiply.
Embryonic Stage:
This stage begins at the third week and the cells become human. The brain begins to be developed and the embryo divides into three layers. During this time, the buds that will be the arms and legs appear and the neural cord does too.
Fetal Stage:
When the cells differentiate, the embryo becomes a fetus in the ninth week. The body systems keep developing and neurons keep forming. Reflexes, sex organs, and the body form. The central nervous system becomes more responsive. The fetus keeps developing in this stage until birth and will put on weight and prepare for life after birth.
