I think these violations occur so often because as students we are constantly doing homework, assignments, research and papers and using information that we find on the internet without properly siting or crediting the original source. Pictures, music, information and so much more are constantly used without proper authorization or compensation by students, a lot of the time just by negligence or being unaware, other times consciously and purposefully.

What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

I believe we could reduce or eliminate these violations by educating students earlier on about the severity and ethical value of using other people's resources without authorization or compensation. As students we are always threatened with expulsion for plagiarizing, however it does not seem to reduce or eliminate this. An idea would be to create a mandatory class in universities about the ten commandments of computer ethics, the severity of violating them and the important of complying with them. Without just using the threat of fear of expulsion and actually educating students on these matters maybe these commandments would be more valued by students, and therefore respected and followed.
