Hi! I’m Angel Rose Ann Basa, and I'm studying as an ABM student at Ateneo De Davao University. You can call me by my first name. I just turned 21, and my birthday is June 6, which means I’m a Gemini. I like to explore things I haven’t tried, but I don't like any matcha flavor when it comes to food or drink. I don’t want to eat any food with ketchup on it.

From there, I explored everything in business: clothes, footwear, beauty cosmetics, purses, food, and perfume. I focused on doing business when I had to be the “breadwinner” when the pandemic came in. I do live selling to pay the bills and for our daily needs.

When I was just a baby, my mother used to laugh at how stubborn I already was. She told me that whenever she tried to feed me mashed vegetables, I would turn my head away and tightly close my mouth, as if I already knew how to say “no.” But when she brought out mashed bananas, my face would instantly light up, and I would open my mouth wide, waiting like a little bird. She always said it amazed her how someone so small already knew what they wanted.

She also loved to share how I used to follow her with my eyes everywhere she went. If she stepped out of sight, I would pout and begin to cry, but the moment she came back and said my name, I would stop instantly, as if nothing had happened. She would tease me, saying I was her “tiny shadow” who never wanted to be away from her arms.

My mother says those little moments—my stubbornness with food and my clinginess to her presence—were early signs of my strong will and deep attachment to family. Looking back, I guess even as an infant, I was already showing her a glimpse of the person I was becoming.

Whenever I played hide-and-seek, instead of finding a proper hiding spot, I would just cover my eyes with my hands or a pillow and stay completely still. I thought I was invisible! My family would pretend not to see me at first, saying things like, “Where could you be? I can’t find you anywhere!”—even though my legs or hair were sticking out.

The moment they “found” me, I would squeal with laughter, so proud of how well I thought I hid. It became one of my favorite games, and my mom always said it showed how playful and innocent I was back then.

One of the best memories I have from my early childhood was when my family brought us to the zoo. I remember being so excited, not just because of the animals, but because I got to run around and play with my siblings. We pointed at the lions and elephants together, making silly animal sounds as if we were part of the zoo ourselves. When we saw the monkeys swinging on the trees, my siblings and I tried to copy them, hanging on the railings and laughing so hard that even our parents couldn’t stop smiling.

Another time, we went to the play park, and it felt like our little paradise. My siblings and I would race each other to the slides, take turns pushing one another on the swings, and compete on who could go higher. We also loved the seesaw—laughing whenever one of us went up too fast and the other went down with a little bump. At the end of the day, we were sweaty and tired, but so happy that we didn’t even want to go home.

Those simple days—playing, laughing, and exploring with my siblings—remain some of the happiest parts of my childhood. They remind me that the best memories are made when you’re surrounded by family.

Back in my elementary days, I was lucky enough to have two circles of best friends—one inside the school and one outside of it.

In school, I had a group of friends who were inseparable from me. We even had matching bracelets to prove it, like a little symbol of our bond. Wherever one of us went, the others followed—whether it was going to the canteen, borrowing books in the library, or just walking around during recess. Teachers and classmates would always notice how we stuck together, and it felt so special to have that kind of friendship every single school day.

But after the bell rang and school was over, I had another circle waiting for me outside. These were the friends I grew up with in the neighborhood. We would play Chinese garter until the sun went down, race each other in the streets, and share our coins to buy street foods like kwek-kwek, fishballs, and ice candy. The laughter, the games, and the simple joy of those afternoons made childhood so colorful.

Now, we’ve all grown older and taken different paths, but the bond from both circles of friends is still there. They are part of who I am today—one group reminding me of the fun of school days, and the other of the warmth of home and childhood play.

When I reached my adolescence stage, I started to explore new sides of myself—and one of the biggest steps was trying out modeling in streetwear. At first, I was just curious. I loved how streetwear looked so expressive and bold, and I wanted to see if I could carry that kind of style too. I still remember the first time I joined a small photoshoot with friends. I felt nervous, but once I put on the oversized hoodie, sneakers, and cap, I felt a sudden boost of confidence. It was like wearing those clothes allowed me to express a side of me I hadn’t shown before.

Soon, modeling streetwear became more than just posing for photos—it turned into a form of self-expression. I began experimenting with mix-and-match outfits, learning how to project confidence in front of the camera, and even posting my looks online. My friends cheered me on, and little by little, I discovered that I wasn’t just “trying it out”—I was actually growing into it.

That stage of exploring modeling taught me how important it is to be confident in my own skin. It gave me courage to step outside my comfort zone and reminded me that adolescence isn’t just about changes—it’s about discovering who you are and who you want to become.

When I entered young adulthood, my life began to open up in exciting new ways. Traveling became one of my greatest joys. I finally had the chance to see different countries, explore their culture, and experience things I had only dreamed of as a child. Whether it was walking through busy city streets, visiting famous landmarks, or simply trying new food, every trip felt like a new chapter in my life. Traveling gave me a wider perspective of the world and made me more independent, curious, and appreciative of life’s beauty.

At the same time, I discovered how much I enjoyed being active in the gym. What started as a simple routine turned into a lifestyle. The gym became my safe space, where I pushed myself, built discipline, and gained both strength and confidence. It taught me consistency—not just in fitness, but in life. Balancing workouts with my passion for traveling made me realize that health and adventure can go hand in hand.

Now, as a young adult, I find happiness in the freedom to shape my own path—one that allows me to grow, stay strong, and explore the world one destination at a time.

1. Yes, the subject Personal Development was very helpful for me because it allowed me to better understand my strengths, weaknesses, and values. It helped me reflect on my personality, emotions, and goals, which made me more aware of who I am and what I want to achieve. Through the lessons, I learned how to handle stress, build confidence, and improve my relationships with others. Overall, it guided me in making wiser choices for my personal growth and future career.

2. My key takeaways from the subject are the importance of self-awareness, goal-setting, and emotional intelligence. I realized that understanding myself is the first step toward achieving success and happiness. I also learned that growth requires continuous effort, discipline, and openness to change. These lessons taught me to stay positive and motivated even when facing challenges.

3. My two favorite topics were Self-Concept and Personal Relationships. I liked Self-Concept because it helped me discover more about my identity, values, and how I see myself as a person. Personal Relationships was also meaningful because it taught me how to build healthy connections and communicate better with others. Both topics helped me become more mindful, understanding, and empathetic in dealing with people and myself.
