Project Title: Brick and Juno take on Wall Street.
Logline: Brick and Juno are about to have the business meeting of their life, but is life ever on time?
Short synopsis: Brick and Juno decide to hit it big and escape the working class rigamarole after watching the the masterpiece Wolf of Wall Street. To become true business men they need money and looks and the final ingredient, a business deal of a lifetime. With briefcases in hand and a deadline to meet they set out to the streets where some strange interactions threaten to steer them off course AND out of time.

Due to a lack of crew I'm taking on the roles of Director and Producer and utilising creatives as support in being DOP and Editor for my film alongside a Musician to create music for the film. Brick and Juno are characters heavily inspired and based off the double act style with key examples and influences being 'Withnail and I' and 'Bottom' with the dialogue and characters representing different social classes. The roles had been creatively workshopped for some time by Myself and Tallu using our own wardrobe, I couldn't see the characters being played by anyone else after a 6 hour improvisation session in order to get a feel for the characters. That session is captured by a short film produced on January 12th 2023 titled Brick and Juno. This acted as both a rehearsal for the role but also as a chance to work closely with Tobias who is my DoP, I was able to develop a style with him in the way of framing and despite the self imposed limitations of using an Iphone as the camera, Tobias utilised zoom functions to full effect and shown me what can be done with a lack of equipment for a certain style but also expressed his knowledge of lenses to create a similar effect with much better equipment. In addition to this I saw Tallu work as editor and also began to quickly develop a style of quick cuts used effectively to keep the spectator active, something very important to keep up the pacing of the film and its jokes presented through sketches and dialogue. Lastly, I worked alongside Toby in creating lietmotifs and atmospheric music for the characters on the previous production and found the ease of conveying ideas similar in this production when i directed him to create something thematically in line with the core concept of the film but still adhere to its absurdist comedic style.
As a producer i swiftly made decisions for the feasability of my film, for the aesthetic and to best represent the characters, therefore all scenes take place at night. Taken along with their childish approach to becoming businessmen Brick and Juno seek to enact a business deal in order to have a happy ending to their night, but time creeps up and distractions come into play. Stylistically Brick and Juno are worlds apart but blend well together in their toxic relationship to be closer to the other class that they represent. Despite this simple premise I don't wish to accept a standard style in terms of comedy, pacing, style and dialogue choosing instead to opt for much more jarring scenes that juxtapose emotion and subvert expectation making them surreal and absurd. Yet I intend to give the audience an easy means to translate the humour through editing style and music, heavily inspired in this way by David Lynch's Twin Peaks with music composed by Angelo Badalamenti. The style of editing involves long debilitating shots at times, unfortunately due to the time restriction of 5 minutes this can only be done at a few points and instead a more faster pace and editing style is needed to contain the plot of the film. The music also plays a huge role in presenting emotion through the film, giving easy classifications of aesthetic within the shots to the audience.

A large stylistic approach i wish to take that will challenge me is working with unconventional lighting as a large point for the film is that all of it will be filmed at night. This can create much more dramatic scenes when accompanied with precise framing, blocking and camera angles and would push me to push my directing skills whilst acting to direct the DoP and fellow actor in conjunction with myself for the most fitting shots for that scene. Another part of my vision is to unerringly show close ups and/or extreme close ups with fisheye lens (0.5x) of the main characters in order to solicit higher comedic effect. This will also be challenging in making it appeal to the films audience as a new trope of humour that is being established in film format rather than its more mainstream media popularity.

A lot of my pre production work in developing the story was done through skits and storyboards after the skeleton for the story was made. Creating situations to hinder Brick and Juno also serve to waste more time for the audience who is in Brick and Juno's dreamland where strange things are the regular.
