I have always felt the pressure to write 'realistic' dialogue, however, this showed that isn't something to strive towards. The video introduced four main kinds of dialogue styles: Quirk dialogue, where the characters have their own little dialogue quirks and phrases. It is in no way how people really talk, for instance, in the film Juno, there are characters who are complete strangers that talk with such confidence to each other with their quirky dialogue habits that real people just wouldn't do. There's Heightened Language dialogue, used by Aaron Sorkin which has very little amount of beats in between, his characters talk and reaction very quickly to visualise their high intelligence to the audience. Tarantino uses a lot of Ideal dialogue, there are a lot more beats in between, the characters are rarely interrupted and everything they say is meaningful and on point. Again, this is not how real people talk, but it works for Tarantino's style. Lastly, there is Naturalistic dialogue. This is how real people talk, it's messy, people interrupt each other, struggle to finish sentences, and sometimes don't talk at all. Even though one of the four styles is deemed realistic, all of them work for their intended films because in those worlds, that writing is how the characters talk, it matches their personality and environment. In that sense, realistic dialogue isn't essentially having the characters talk like people in real life, but talk like what is real to them, from their personality, their history, their world, the style of the film and the genre. 
Thinking about this when it comes to my fantasy script, I do feel like mine is taking a slightly new root in the genre. From a lot of fantasy films and series I've seen, a lot of the dialogue is Ideal dialogue, the characters talk clear and mean every word. For mine, I do still want that sense, but I want to bring more Naturalistic dialogue in with some of the main characters. With my past scripts, I have only really worked from rough bullet-points of the plot, or even nothing at all and going into the script blind. Although I still managed, working without a beat sheet can easily cause writers block - which I often suffer from. Now working with a beat sheet, I have found that my ideas and writing flows a lot easier. I am able to focus on one point at a time, exploring it as much as I like, and able to look back on that point to see if I have achieved it within the story. The main character being a young girl from the real world who teleports into the Fantasy world of Luna is inspired by the concept of travelling to another world from the 'Narnia Chronicles', where the children teleport to Narnia through the wardrobe or painting. 
The world of Luna is inspired by 'Game of Thrones', 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe', and 'Shadow and Bone' - Most of the world being covered in snow, inspired by 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' when Narnia was covered in snow because of the evil witch, the weather and the ruling is also inspired by 'Game of Thrones' where one king/queen rules all the seven kingdoms - in Whitewood, one king/queen rules the whole of Luna. The villain, Vaskor, is loosely inspired by the Darkling in 'Shadow and Bone', an equally charming yet powerful and terrifying immortal man with a fierce army. 

By having similarities to other Fantasy films and series, it's a way to draw in the audiences who already love them - as they know if they like those, they will most likely enjoy this film too. It also helps to give me more ideas to explore and branch off - such as in 'Game of Thrones', it is seen throughout that homosexual relationships are forbidden, so I thought what if in my film, it is a normal thing, what differences would that make to this fantasy world? Also, in 'Game of Thrones' and 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe', the cold snowy climates are viewed as a negative thing, in relation to the evil witch and the Night King. Georgia Henley I can clearly see playing the part of Georgia Jetton. Her portrayal of Lucy in the Chronicles of Narnia was truly captivating; she showed the full range of wonderment and fear a young girl would have in an unknown fantastical world. For that, I believe she is best suited to the role.

Richard Madden has shown his ability to play the role of powerful but flawed men. His role as Robb Stark in Game of Thrones shows him as a strong, fearless King in the North. However he is led by his heart, it is what led him into war to save his sisters, and it is what led him to his death when he married a woman he fell in love with, breaking his vow to marry another. Madden shows Robb's struggles between being strong for his people, and being gentle for his family. Deep down, Robb is lost, and Madden captured that beautifully. Madden has also shown his ability of playing characters with wit to them, and his openness to play homosexual characters, such as Ashley Greenwick in Sirens, and John Reid in Rocketman. Overall, his talent shown from all of these roles makes him best suited to the role of Lucian, an ex-knight, a lost soul who bottles his hurt with humour and distance. 

The role of Prince Azra will be new to Alfie Allen, but I believe it would be a refreshing role to see him in. We have seen the chemistry Allen and Madden have on and off screen of Game of Thrones, their friendship would make their performances and character's relationship that much stronger. Azra is a strong young man who tries his best to prove himself to be worthy of the crown after his father - Allen has shown his ability to achieve this with his role as Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, where he does all he can to prove to his father and sister that he is loyal to the Iron Islands (his House). Allen has also shown his openness to homosexual roles, with his portrayal of Freddy Finkel in Jojo Rabbit. 

Ben Barnes is well known for playing a villain, from Dorian Gray to Jigsaw (The Punisher series), he is truly captivating and is able to show the heart of these villains that makes audience able to sympathise with them. It is his role as the Darkling from the Shadow and Bones series that makes me see him best suited to the role of Vaskor. The Darkling is a cruel and bitter man, immortal and powerful, Barnes has shown his talent in both showing the Darkling's evil, while also exposing his heart - he is lonely, and more than anything wants to rule with someone to love by his side. Barnes has shown his fondness of the role, stating many times that the Darkling isn't truly evil. His passion for these kind of roles makes him best suited for the role of Vaskor, he would explore the role in ways others wouldn't go, he too would find the heart of the character and bleed that through his performance. 

King Dobbin is a powerful but kind-hearted character, a role I believe James Cosmo will fit perfectly. He has shown his ability to play a similar role with Jeor Mormont in Game of Thrones. Mormont was Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Cosmo portrayed him as a strong but fair leader, he used his position for good, and Cosmo made it clear to the audience how good Mormont was at heart, even though he was tough on the outside. Dobbin has similar qualities, which is why I believe Cosmo is the right fit - Dobbin has a hardened exterior, he must have one to be a fit ruler, but on the inside he is soft, wanting nothing more than the best for his family.

Rene Russo's role as Frigga in Marvel's Thor films is what makes me see her best suited to the role of Queen Alka. Russo showed the power and grace of Frigga - as a Goddess, she is strong-headed and ruthless when she has to be, but Russo also shows her gentle side, when it comes to her sons, Thor and Loki, she is warm-hearted and caring. Alka has similar qualities that Russo would bring to life beautifully - Alka is strong-willed and fearless when she has to be, as Queen, she must remain so. However, her hardened exterior is mainly there to protect her son, Azra, who she would do anything for. All of my digital art concepts are created on Adobe Photoshop. I start off all my pieces with a sketch layer, this involves a rough outline of the characters position, pose and a working guide of where features such as eyes, nose, mouth etc will be placed. I often draw in blue in this layer so when I go into drawing the final outline, there is a distinct difference in the lines so I don't get mixed up on where I've already drawn. When I draw more than one character in a scene, or if theres other objects or scenery, I'll draw in multiple different colours so that there's no confusion as to which lines belong to who. 

I will then create a new layer on top to make the final outline, adding in facial expressions, hair and clothes, as well as making the general outline neater. Once that is done, I will turn off the first sketch layer, as I no longer need it.

I then make a new layer underneath the final outline layer for the flat colour. I put this layer underneath the outline layer so that I don't have to worry about going over the lines, and it also keeps those outlines neat. Once I have finished the base colour, I will make a new layer on top of the colour layer to add in shadows and highlights to make the characters feel three-dimensional. For some of my pieces, I'll leave the shadows and highlights as block colours, or if I want them to look more realistic like my character concepts, I will blend them with the smudge tool to add more of a shading depth to the piece. 

The last thing I will do is add in the background, creating a layer underneath all the others to add in a colour background. For my character concepts, I also included boarders around each character, a layer that was added on top of all the others so that everything was neatly kept behind the frame. Creating character and world concepts helps me to maintain creative flow, and is a way for me to connect to the characters, world and story on another level that enables me to look back on during moments of writers block and instantly be able to get back in the flow - for instance, at times I might be stuck on what a character would say or do in a certain situation, I will then look at the drawings I've done of them and helps me to visualise what they might say/do. 
They also make it easier for me to write descriptions and to maintain consistence with the characters and world. Instead of having to keep looking back through the character profiles I wrote, I can easily just look at the drawings and instantly be able to continue writing, rather than having to check through loads of notes and text of what clothes or what a certain location looked like at a certain point in the script. 

Although screenwriters and writers in general are not known for creating the concept art of their written work, it is a part of my work that I will continue to do as it is incredibly beneficial to me. Knowing Richard Madden and Alfie Allen's friendship and their onscreen relationship as Robb Stark and Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, their chemistry fits well with the characters and their relationship. 

Their relationship is a big part of the script, it both tells the audience how same-sex relationships factor into this fantasy world, and it also shows the struggles and bond the characters have, just like any straight relationship. 
Azra is quite reserved, he is tactical and hides his vulnerable side behind a cold-hearted exterior. Lucian on the other hand is, in simple terms, goofy. He is adventurous and wild, and he hides his vulnerable side behind comedy. Their personalities both make them clash and draw them towards one another. Although they do have their fights, they do bring the best out of each other. Lucian helps Azra see the fun side of life, Azra helps Lucian to face his problems, rather than run from them.

Azra and Lucian met as teenagers. Lucian was the King's ward, and from the moment he met Azra, they hit it off. With being a ward and a prince, their friendship wasn't allowed, often they had to sneak off to spend time together. However, once Lucian became a knight, they could be more open about their friendship, and later on, about their relationship. 
In this fantasy world, same-sex relationships are treated as any other relationship. With the King and Queen knowing Lucian since a boy, knowing his loyalty and bravery, they allowed them to start courting, they were soon to marry. However, Lucian struggled with the commitment of being king, he knew nothing of ruling. He fled the palace and never returned, leaving Azra heartbroken and bitter.

In the script, Azra and Lucian are reunited when they have to save their world. Throughout the script, the audience gets to learn about their relationship, their hate for each other, their arrogance, their weaknesses, and buried beneath it all, their love for each other that slowly reveals itself. 

Why have I made their relationship in such a way? In a lot of films I've seen, same-sex relationships revolve around the discovery of being gay, or about the relationship in danger because of homophobic societies. In a lot of fantasy, I've seen same-sex relationships revolve around nothing but sex. I wanted to break all of these, I wanted to have these two characters that know their identity, who are both powerful in society, but had their own personal struggles that made their relationship messy and painful but also made it so beautiful and raw. The visuals include greens, browns and blues for both atmosphere and weather, whether that be blue to indicate the cold weather in Game of Thrones, or green to suggest danger like in Shadow and Bone. Even in the scripting stage of the film, I can still think about what colours I'm using with descriptions of clothing, characters and locations which can then help actors and directors to visualise the scenes and influence their colour choices within the film. 
Fantasy films/series are also seen to all use a mix of establishing, wide and close up shots - using the wider shots to set up the location or show a lot of big action sequences such as battle scenes, and close up shots to show more intimate moments such as characters expressions and character relationship building or breaking moments. Having this mix gives the audience a good ratio of excitement with the action and all the unique visuals the fantasy world has to offer, and moments of calm and intimacy where the audience get to know more about the characters, feel a connection to them and to have a breather from all the action. 

I've also learnt how much of an impact the real world has on these fantasy productions. The filmmakers of these projects took a lot of influence from history, such as peoples accents, costumes, and the architecture. By using these influences from the real world, it makes these fantasy worlds feel grounded. Game of Thrones and the Narnia Chronicles using British accents and medieval style clothing, Shadow and Bone using influences from Russian and Scandinavian clothing and architecture. These influences give the audience familiarity in a world they are new to, that familiarity can help them to engage more to the story and to learn more about the world, as they aren't left confused from the very beginning. With my film, I am aiming to also have quite a few influences from the real world, the characters all mainly with British accents and the main language of the world contains a lot of Welsh. The clothing inspired by a mix of medieval and Georgian times, with the thick fur cloaks and luxurious suits and dresses. The locations include a lot of snowy forests, iconic looking pirate ships and the Whitewood palace inspired by the Mont Saint Michel in France. With these familiarities, I hope for the audience to feel grounded within the world and engaged with the story. 

Overall, a successful fantasy production is something that both keeps the audience grounded and excited. With such a complex dynamic between Lucian and Azra especially, I didn't want to aim towards an audience any younger that might not be able to grasp their relationship. From the survey I did, there are a mass amount of book lovers striving for more queer people and relationships in fantasy. There are also a lot of queer books that are recently being adapted for screen, such as Heartstopper and They Both Die at the End, both of which are gaining a massive amount of attention.

My plan would be to first as the book is published, with its success and fanbase, then return to the script to further improvements and alterations needed by the production company. Fantasy books are also popular with production companies to adapt, knowing that they hold these fanbases and get to expand on these worlds the writer created. However, as seen from the first image, they gave their reactions to the story more than proper feedback - although knowing what I was writing was giving the write impact to its intended audience was still useful for me, with the friends I asked help from being 16-19, around the age of my intended target audience for the script.

I still needed some proper feedback to help me to improve the script. A script is never perfect and finished after the first script, ideally, the more drafts of a script you have, the better that final draft will be. I went to both my current tutor and my old film tutor from college to give feedback. Both of them gave great points which I took on board which helped clear up some simple things, like spelling mistakes, and some bigger plot and character points, like the progression of Lucian and Azra's relationship. I'm glad I had both on board to give feedback, as they both gave points from two different angles - my old tutor gave feedback from a film perspective, how the script would translate to screen, how it would be perceived by the audience. My current tutor focussed a lot more on the plot itself, the characters and their relationships with he love of books and the fantasy genre. With feedback from both a film and book perspective, I was able to make some great improvements to aid the plot and how its translated to the audience on screen. 

Feedback on my scripts is something I enjoy getting. I used to be horrified by the idea and would take it personally when someone suggested changes. However, in the last few years, I've really relished in wanting feedback, I want people to be critical because its from that feedback that I'm able to improve on my work to make it better. For this module, I'm finishing with the second draft of the script to show the improvements I've made from the feedback given. However, beyond this module, I will actually be going on to start the novel of Whitewood. I will be able to fully flesh out the characters, the world and the plot and share it with the world. From the success of the book, I may then return to the script, further make changes and improvements, and go on to the final draft which includes all the camera shots and movements I envision for the film. The three aspects I've focussed on looking at are just some of the many elements that the filmmakers take months to master. In a fantasy world, aspects like the visual effects and production design are an important part to bringing the fictional world to life for the audience. The visual effects can range from altering how many clouds are in the sky, to a fully CGI dragon, all of which requires a massive amount of planning for it to work. As seen in the video about the visual effects, when working on the interactions between Drogon and Daenerys, the actress is seen using a simple prop to act with in place of the dragon, this allows for the visual effects artists to accurately have the CGI creature interact with a real person. With having the actress act with a prop instead of just guessing where the dragon might be, it allows a more realistic performance, and for the visual effects artists to have the dragon in the right place, so that the actress's hand doesn't clip through the CGI, or doesn't look like its floating above the dragon instead of actually touching it. Although in the grant scheme of the series it might seem like a small thing, the inaccuracy of these effects can pull the audience out of the world.

Looking into the filmmakers approach to the storytelling in the first video was interesting to me, and helped show my own reasoning behind what's most important in film, which is character. In the Dragon Pit scene, there is no mass amount of action, yet it is still highly engaging. This is because the filmmakers had the scene led by the characters, their desires, fears, their relationships and conflicts. If they just focussed on the overall plot of the scene, it would've easily been a dull moment to watch with just a bunch of people talking about politics. However, the filmmakers really focussed on the individual characters and the little interactions between them all, we got to see characters reunite, either for better or worse, we got some characters interacting for the first time which excited both the filmmakers and then audiences in how they would interact. Apart from visual effects which are mostly used now, there are other key methods used in building a fantasy world; location scouting and production design. 
Location scouting is ideal for the adventurous fantasy productions where there is a lot of travelling and scenery. The Lord of the Rings to this day has some of the best used on set locations in New Zealand where hundreds of thousands of tourists now go to see the iconic locations, such as the hills of the Shire. Filming on location allows the actors to delve deep into their role and immerse themselves into the world, making the experience that much more engaging to the audience.
Along with the location scouting, is the production design. Often, the two come in hand-in-hand, such as in the production made Hobbit Holes in New Zealand. Other times, the production design is the main aspect, such as with the production of Crimson Peak. The majority of the film is filmed within a manor. The filmmakers actually built both the interior within a studio warehouse and made a life-size model for exterior shots. As shown in the images within Mark Salisbury's book, 'Crimson Peak: The Art of Darkness' (2015), the production team worked hard on perfecting the creepy atmosphere of the manor, making it feel like its living and breathing. Mumblecore is brought naturally into Naturalistic dialogue, involving characters interrupting each other to the point it's not clear what they're saying, it can also include the characters stuttering and unable to finish or string sentences together. The characters who are most likely to use mumblecore is Lucian and Azra, with their history and their personalities clashing for most of the script, them interrupting each other and unable to communicate how they feel to each other. The Idealistic dialogue will be mostly used with Eira, the King and Queen. They are all confident individuals of power and know who they are, they know their place in the world, they know their worth, the use of clear and precise dialogue with beats that no one interrupts shows the respect the other characters have of them, giving the audience a better understanding of the relationship dynamics.
