         <title>Theme: Identity Exploration</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Lesson 1:</p><p>"Self Portraits"</p><p>Mixed media self portraits that showcase "outer" physical self and "inner" self. Outer self will focus on physical appearance and artistic style choice (realism, abstract etc.) Inner self showcases hobbies, interests, values etc. Mixed media requires 3 different mediums to be utilized in the final piece.</p><p><br/></p><p>Lesson 2:</p><p>"Identity Collage"</p><p>Collage utilizing any mediums on a 9x12 art board. Various layering and painting techniques will be incorporated. Collage is to depict important aspects of their identity which could include personal things they like and family/cultural references.</p><p><br/></p><p>Lesson 3:</p><p>"Map of Me"</p><p>Students will create a map of their "universe" that showcases their personal identity. We will study various maps in film and video games as well as art styles. Students will work with ink and watercolor. Map must have at least for "locations".</p><p><br/></p><p>Lesson 4</p><p>"Food Still Life"</p><p>Food is an important cultural aspect to one's identity. Students will utilize visual storytelling to paint or draw a food item or dish that is important to them. They will also research the cultural and historical connections this food item has to their identity. Optional end of project potluck will allow students to critique and discuss art work as well as engage in a tasting of different cultures food.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

They will research maps and create a vision board of these ideas to share with the class.
