My parents divorced when I was 7 and until I was 13 my mother was working and going to school, so my brother and sister and I were left in a cooperative situation out of necessity. Growing up we had too much to do to allow for individual feelings to dominate the familial relationship or the efficacy of a functioning household as my brother and sister and I had numerous responsibilities maintaining the household. They lived far away from us and so visits were infrequent. I'd like to say that we had an opinion of them one way or the other but our sphere of experience didn't really lend itself to forming one. While behaving appropriately for a time I secretly did library research and asked questions of others from among different spiritual persuasions whenever opportunities arose.
