Before the Japanese soldiers came to Singapore, the teenagers had the freedom and able to move freely or anytime they like. They also communicate or interact within their own races. But after the Japanese had came to Singapore, it is risky for them to watch in the cinema and teenagers also lived in fears as because those that are Anti-Japanese were being tortured by the Japanese soldiers very intensive causing the teenagers to feel insecure to the surrounding or wherever they go. All teenagers are expected to bow at the Japanese soldiers as a form of respect towards the Japanese soldiers and teenagers cannot learn their own mother tongue language because they are under controlled by the Japanese so instead of learning their own mother tongue language, they learn Japanese. Despite the fact that the teenagers lived in fear, teenagers get to interact with people from different races and get along together with one another.
