What I don't understand is how Jay isn't in trouble? I mean the story he told the police, didn't he incriminate himself? Adnan is spending a life sentence in prison over a case without a single piece of concrete evidence?

Hard to say really, a lot has been brought up within the 50 minutes we've listened. And frankly, there's a lot of information that could or could not have happened for both sides. The only issue is the fact that absolutely nothing is concrete. Most of it is entirely backed up by only a single witness. Jay on the prosecution, and Asia for defense. My opinion on the matter tells me that I cannot form an objective opinion on whether or not the prosecuted is truly innocent or guilty. Therefore, I find it most appropriate to hold off on making such quick opinions until further information to properly base an opinion of arise.

I believe that he is innocent. My three main reasons for my belief are: one, there was absolutely no physical evidence that can link him to the murder. Two, while Jay's story was (suspiciously) detailed, his reputation doesn't make him seem like a very trustable source. Three, Asia was able to positively place him at the library during the exact time at which the murder took place. I find it unsettling how Asia didn't come forward sooner. I get not wanting to be involved, but she should have testified her information, rather than contradicting her statement. Her testimony could have saved Adnon from 15 years of prison time.

So far, with the evidence shown, I believe Adnan is innocent. I know in order for someone to remember specific events something important must happen, that's why Adnan couldn't really remember anything becuase like he said"it was just another normal day." The fact that Jay could recite every specific detail of that day while also smoking weed doesn't make sense to me. Also Asia remembers the day because of the events that happened to her that day, she had to spend multiple hours at the library which made her angry. It caused a lot of strong emotions that helped her remember. She's Adnan's alibi but was never mentioned in the case.

His girlfriend broke up with him but he says in the podcast that he never had a reason to hate her or no reason to kill her. They also used Jay's story to convict him but the podcast says he is the high school drug dealer. I also think Asia should have come forward sooner and looked into the case, she thought they proved he did it so she backed out which did not help Adnan. Also from Jay's story he says he helped Adnan bury the body, so how is not not in any trouble?

I noticed that during Jay's interrogation, he hesitated a lot. Which made me think that his story isn't 100% true. I think that Adnan's voice seemed very genuine, but that could also just be a good act. But as we know, there is no concrete evidence so I'm not fully on one side or another. If I had to guess based on what I know already, I would guess that Adnan is innocent. I believe that Asia is telling the truth but I also think some of the things she said in her letter were a little odd and it seemed to be planned. Another thought is, that there was nothing left behind from the murder so this person had to be smart. I don't think this is something a drug dealer could pull off. And since we know Adnan smoked and stuff too, he might not be the smartest either. I'm not sure. But I wouldn't be surprised if Stephanie was the one who did it. She could've been jealous of Hae and Adnan's relationship.

Episode2: After listening to the second episode, my opinion still stands. I believe that Adnan is innocent. I do wonder where Adnan's car was though. Was the car in the shop? Was the car with Jay? I would also question why Adnan's story would be changing. Does he just not remember, or is it because he is guilty and doesn't want to get caught up?

My opinion of Adnan's innocence remains unchanged. There were many factors that play into his unfair imprisonment, such as: inconvenient line up of evidence, people's lack of ability to remember the events, and a bad lawyer, etc. Although there was undoubtedly more evidence brought up about this case in this episode, I still do not think Adnan is guilty. My belief that Jay is the real suspect still stands. The only questions I really have are-- one: Where was he for those 21 miniutes? And two: Was his contradiction regarding the car ride simply a slip up due to faulty memory, or is there something more to it?

On top of that, to stop and take a quick leak he traveled farther into the woods than they would've expected. To me Mr. S seems suspicious but there is not enough evidence to say whether I think he did it or not. So yes, he does sway my opinion about Adnan's guilt. The only thing I would question is if the phone call would've been made before the murder, would Adnan have had time to kill her while Jay was supposed to be on his way? Jay just makes me suspicious. He states that he never would've spoken to her and just only gotten information from his friends who were a lot closer to her. Despite this however, there were three recorded calls coming from Adnan to her the previous night, before the disappearance. Which simply didn't line up with the logic behind his statement, it feels so incredibly inconsistent.

In terms of Kathy's story, I do think its strange how Jay seemed to be acting so agitated, but Adnan was just acting high, and Adnan picked up the phone even after apparently being "warned" that the police were gonna call and question him. This is strange because why would Adnan pick up the phone if he was warned about being called and questioned by the police?

I can understand that Adnan wouldn't want to talk to his ex though. The fact that one of the girls said Jay was at the store he worked at when she got the call but he wasn't employed at that time is suspicious and doesn't make sense. Adnan being weird about getting a call that a cop was going to call him doesn't seem that odd to me because he was high so his response can be justified. The fact that Adnan friend zoned Sarah and said she didn't really know him doesn't stick out to me because I agree with Adnan, I don't think you can really know someone by just talking over the phone for awhile.

It would make me question whether or not he knows anything about her disappearance. What I would use to "justify" this piece of evidence would be the fact that he was in the loop with her friends, why would he feel the need to try and reach out if no one else could get ahold of her? It is a little suspicious. The interaction with Kathy also throws me off a little. I could understand why he would be nervous to talk to the cops though. He was super high which would affect how he was handling the situation and how he was processing everything.

Also Kathys story of someone calling Adnan warning him about a police call would imply there was a third person involved. if Jay took a plea deal for no/minimal charges in exchange for all the information he has about the murder, he would've said something about another person.

I think what Deirdre makes sense, you don't get lucky with a charming psychopath. I have more respect for Jay after this episode because of the way he handled being yelled at in the court room and keeping his composure, especially not having any family to back him up. I also think if Jay had done it he wouldn't have even talked to Sarah let alone allow them to come inside and talk about the situation. This makes me lean more towards Adnan being guilty but there's just so many facts that don't make sense and don't add up to me I can't be sure.

I was shocked that Koenig went to Jays house, and I'm surprised by everyone's description of him. this episode helped me to see Jay as more of a real person, instead of just a character the police got all this information from. He handled getting screamed at in court very well, and he has a little bit more credibility in my mind now. I thought I was sure that Adnan was innocent, but as these episodes progress I'm not so sure anymore.

He didn't have a motive to kill Hae. The only thing that stuck out was how he might have lied about asking Hae for a ride.

I don't think that the reason Adnan was convicted is because he's muslim like his mom thinks, and I think it's interesting that gutierrez's whole defense was to try and make other people look suspicious. I think it's true that the police are ignoring other key witnesses (Jay) simply because he provided them with the story. I've never heard of a conviction being made without any physical evidence before..

I think the fact that the cops helped Jay get an attorney just proves that they were trying to help him out so they could wrap up their story. I also don't like Adnan's attorney because of the past cases she's done where she was taking advantage of the families money for herself, like she did with Adnan's parents. I feel like if Adnan had gotten a better attorney then the whole case could've gone the other way.

Adnan's attorney taking advantage of other families makes me suspicious. It seems like she was going through something throughout Adnan's trial. She really was not doing a great job at helping Adnan's case. Her main focus was to point the murder to someone else. She should've been defending him and really pushing evidence to support his innocence. I was shocked when I heard that Jay was given a lawyer by the prosecutor. It seems as though Jays testimony could've been altered to fit what the prosecutors wanted. There is a large possibility that Jay was working with the detectives etc and saying what they wanted to hear. Jay and the prosecutors make me feel uneasy when it comes to this case.

I really find the fact that the police department confided in the case to help individuals like Jay get an attorney just feels incredibly unfair and like something us going on underneath the surface. Including the fact of how abhorrently awful Adnan's attorney is, with her completely taking advantage of him in his vulnerable state. It just doesn't feel right.
