Toddlers have a tendency to put everything in their mouths, which puts them at risk for poisoning and choking. We should avoid putting small parts of toys in the classroom. If toddlers are asked to play with small toys, close adult supervision should be implemented in order to protect the children's safety.

by Winnie Chow

Household items which contain chemicals are very dangerous for children if they get their hands on it. Products such as bleach, paint thinners, abrasive cleaners etc. Not only has it caused injuries but also death to children under the age of 5. Even a small amount of chemical can be poisonous. There are lots of harms to these products other than poisonous such as flammable, corrosive or explosive. To avoid children from this danger, we can keep all chemical products out of reach or in a locked cupboard. Educate children on the hazard symbols and that it means DANGER. Keep the product in it's original container and never cover or remove the labels. Make sure you close the cap tightly.

-Faheema Ingar

Toddlers tend to be curious with their surroundings; hence, they try to explore things on their own. Most of them are starting to learn to pull themselves up using furniture or touch different objects. This may cause great harm especially if they try to reach for objects that could burn them. For instance, they might touch a hot pan or grab a hot drink from the table. Moreover, they also have the tendency to spill hot food/drinks while eating.
So, as adults, we must provide active supervision and ensure that both children and their environment are safe by removing hot objects out of their reach and reminding them about specific causes and effects of things.
- Ariane Faith Pioquid

Toddlers are always in run or move. So fall is very common accident. It can happen in indoor or outdoor. So we have to observe children to avoid fall. We have to observe which place is safe for toddler to climb and if there is any slippery place or liquid on the floor should wipe immediately. When we bring them outside also observe them that they are playing in a safe place or not. Let them ride on age appropriate slide. In winter the toddler must wear proper snow boot to avoid any kind of slip on ice.
Ishrat Jahan

Toddlers love to keep moving and exploring they tend to climb up things that they don't know is to high for them. Falling is a very common thing for toddlers and it is not safe for them when there are high places for them to go up on. We should always keep on eye out for them to make sure that they aren't climbing up. Some of the things you can do to prevent falls all the time is to make sure that there aren't many shelves that they can go up or reach. Also another thing that is not safe is having toys on the floor all around the play area because they can trip and hit themselves so when you would see some extra toys that are on the floor to pick them up and put them away so the floor is clear for them to walk and crawl around.
Jesika Andova

Sun Safety is one of the important things you want your children to be protected from, a constant sun exposure may cause your children to have skin disease or skin cancer later on which is why it is important to follow procedures that will prevent this to happen. One of these things that should be followed in making sure that you have the necessary needs that will minimize your child’s sun exposure. First, a parent should understand what are UVB and UVA rays, and how these rays can impact your children’s skin health, knowing about this will bring them knowledge about the effects of the sun if not taken seriously. After understanding this, a person should take a number of precautions that are needed to consider, these are in covering up, wearing a hat, sunglasses, and putting sunscreen with the appropriate SPF for them.

This is applied with choosing the proper strollers to use, such as having a sunshade to it, having this will prevent the rays from exposing them directly so that they will not have sunburn. The wearing of loose clothes and hats, will make them feel fresh and prevent dehydration. Lastly, know places that are not directly exposed to the sun and put a broad spectrum of sunscreen to their skin, much preferably in SPF 30 to add additional protection. Reapplication of it should also be in a 2 – 3 hours period, the application of sunblock should be placed into different parts of the body. When they are playing, consistent checking and attention should be put to know signs as soon as possible especially when they are having heat illness or not having enough water under the sun.

Donna Grace Servidad
