Math Implementation

There are multiple ways math could be implemented in the activity Student 1 was involved in. For instance, she could take out a handful of foam stickers and lay them out on the table. She then can sort the stickers by shape, size, or color. Student 1 could even count how many stickers she has in each group. This activity is a great way for students to learn their colors, shapes, as well as comparing different sizes. The kind of math that was evident in this type of play was counting, sorting, size perception, and identifying shapes.

Since Student 1 seems to have an interest in art, the teacher could implement more art into her lessons. The teacher could get a scale and have Student 1 make a pile of big and small size stickers. The teacher will ask Student 1 to add two big stickers on one side, and count how many little stickers it takes to make the scale balance. The teacher could also use the stickers as a tool to test the student's shape recognition and color recognition.

Student 1 seemed to be very interested in the art table. At the art table were Valentine cards and stickers. As well as plenty of markers and crayons. Student 1 went over to the art table and took a piece of pink paper and began to put foam Valentine stickers on the paper. When I asked her what she was doing, her response was, "Making a picture for mommy."
