The last thing I wrote before coming to class was my Introduction to Biology: Principles of Ecology & Evolution notes for my lecture class. I wrote how when air rises over elevated mountains, valleys and plains, it cools and condenses, leading to the formation of clouds and eventually causing rain. This is called orographic effect. My audience was myself because I am taking notes to get a better understanding of the lecture. My purpose was to understand the lecture that was being taught about the climate, equator and solar energy. I did achieve my purpose because I got a better grasp on using geographic latitude to predict climatic patterns of a region. I know because I wrote all my notes efficiently so I can understand my knowledge. I would not achieve this purpose without writing because I need to make notes about what is being taught for me to get a better comprehension. I picked to write because I can have a better insight of my learning.

The last thing I wrote today before coming to class was my chemistry notes for a chapter I was reading. I wrote about energy and the different types of energy there is. My audience was myself, it was just a reading to help me better understand the topic at hand. The purpose to better understand the topic had to be written because I understand the topic more when writing things in my own words. I chose to write about my chemistry reading because I wanted to get ahead before my lecture later today.

The very last thing I wrote before coming to class today was my notes for Nutrition 10 course. I wrote about the different macronutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, and fat and how these macronutrients are essential for daily life. My target audience was myself as I am aiming to retain information when taking notes. I achieved this purpose of retaining information as I still remember everything I wrote and remember the key ideas very well. I couldn't have achieved this purpose without writing as I believe that I retain information better when I write. I specifically chose to write instead of taking notes on docs as writing has always been a more effective way to retain information for me.

The last thing I wrote was a schedule for the rest of my day. I wrote the times for the classes I had left, homework that was due along with subjects I needed to study. I also included times for the gym, lunch, and dinner. My audience was myself with the purpose of keeping myself on track with completing assignments and how to balance my day. My purpose was achieved and I know because I have accomplished everything on my list so far and I feel confident I can continue to check things off my list. I could have done this without writing, however, I chose to write in order tp engrain my schedule and remaining tasks more effectively in my head. Also, I like to write my tasks on a sticky note that way I can keep track of my tasks physically instead of digitally.

The last thing I wrote was about the showers at my dorm in one of the newer Tercero buildings. I was writing to my boyfriend in New York telling him about our awesome showers after we had discussed the food we've been eating so far. I love the DC food, but unfortunately his DC is 20 minutes away in the city and he just eats KFC. My purpose was to tell him about life at Davis and how it can be so busy balancing classes, commute, food, showering, and sleeping with socializing and hanging out with friends. The reason this conversation started was because he asked why I was so busy since I forgot to reply to his voice message for a whole day . . . and I still haven't listened to it, oops. We could have called instead of texted but because I replied 30 minutes before my first class I had to resort to short texts that didn't convey the full extent of everything I've been doing here. I chose to write to him about this because we have been apart for almost 2 months now and our new lives are a complete mystery to one another. I hope we can talk more and share more about what's been happening but because of our time difference and schedules it's been increasingly difficult to even text at the same time.

The last thing I wrote before coming to this class was notes for my Political Science: International Relations class during a lecture class. I wrote about how wars can be started by a variety of factors such as societal factors where the people of that country want to go to war, economic factors, and international affairs. My intended audience was myself because I was taking notes to help me get a better understanding of what my professor was explaining and make it easier for myself to understand. My purpose of taking these notes was to make it easier for myself to understand what my professor was saying and to condense it down to where I can fully interpret what he was saying and make it easier to review it later. I feel like I did achieve my purpose because when I went back and reviewed my notes that I took I understood them clearly and perfectly. I could not have achieved this purpose without writing because it would be hard for me to remember what my professor said after class if I didn't take notes on his lecture. I choose to write instead of something else because when I write notes it is easier for me to remember them and helps me retain the information that I learned in that class a lot more easier for me.

The very last thing I wrote today before coming to class was to my Mentor asking about the clubs and groups around campus to increase my knowledge of the campus. I wrote asking about what types of clubs would be good to join, are there any study groups around campus that I can drop in on if I have any questions about my class. My audience was the mentor I was assigned to and myself as I was trying to get information that helped me the most. I did achieve my purpose as I was able to find out what I needed to know and make steps to follow up. I couldn't have achieved this purpose without writing as I can't actually call the mentor so typing was the only way. I didn't want to write a different method as this was the easiest solution.

The last thing I wrote before coming to class today was two pages of notes for my Nutrition class. I wrote about the different types of nutrients including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water, expanding on how much our body needs of each to function properly. The audience for this was myself because I am the only one who is going to be looking back at these notes when I need to study for an upcoming exam or need a refresher on a certain topic. The purpose of these notes is to write down the information that I need to remember in order to succeed in the class. Although I could have watched the recorded lecture and not taken notes, I think it would be less effective to learn the material that way. I chose to write my notes as opposed to just watch the presenter talk about the information because writing them down has made it easier for me to retain the information in order to keep up with the class.

One of my latest writings was an email to a friend who lives in France. I wrote in French asking how she's been, how school is going, how the Olympics effected her, and to ask about La Rentree. Since I know that in France they take their vacation and time off work very seriously. La Rentree, the period of time where everyone returns to school, work, and buisness' get back to normal. It's a bit different every year so I like to be informed on that sort of thing. I think I achieved my purpose as I heard back from her shortly after, but without writing I guess I could have video called, but because of the time differences and busy schedules its hard to make that possible. Plus, my French is terrible and is poisoned by my American accent, so writing is better.

I think the last thing I wrote before coming to class today was writing notes for my Greek and Latin studies class. The professor was talking mainly about the history of the English language and the evolution of how it is today and the entire Greek alphabet. I was writing to myself in the form of notes to hopefully use in future quizzes and assignments that he may add later on. I don't think I would be able to achieve this without writing as it could be quite difficult to remember everything by memory with all the information and facts he was giving us. I think writing the notes down is an easier way of remembering things as I have to actively write it down and summarize what he was saying.

The very last thing I wrote before coming to class today was my MAT12 lecture notes. I wrote about the distance formula, circles, and symmetries. Then I did example problems to apply what I learned from the lecture notes to make sure I understood the multiple concepts. My audience was myself because I'm taking these notes to better understand the material. My purpose was to understand the circle and the properties of it as well as memorizing the distance formula so that I can apply it to any related problems. I did achieve my goal because I was able to do the example problems without much difficulty. I wouldn't have been able to achieve this goal without writing because I wouldn't have been able to memorize the formulas and applied them correctly. I chose to write because math is all about practicing through writing your work out.

The last thing I wrote was an entry in my personal journal his morning. I was writing about what I did the previous day, as I had forgotten to write in an entry before going to bed. Specifically, I wrote about how I had spent the day at an empty field at the edge of campus searching for some stuff because I had left it there the day before. Moreover, I wrote about how I had been talking to some of my friends from back home. In terms of audience, I was writing for myself, as a way to keep a log of my thoughts and actions. I think the purpose of this is see how I change as a person and so that in the moment I can more easily think things out. I find that putting things into writing makes them simpler and more straight forward then if I toil over it in my mind. Hypothetically I can go just off of memory for these things, but memories change in your head, physical writing is a better snapshot. I chose to write this morning as I value the journal a lot as a tool to better myself, plus it was convenient.

The last thing I wrote before I started my teaching day was a text message to my dog groomer about the appointment I have tomorrow--asking if I can drop off the dog early.

I texted instead of calling because she is more responsive that way. And it creates a record of our discussion/decision for early drop off. The goal was getting permission, but also capturing the appointment history (this place is known to overbook themselves!). A phone call would not have been as effective.

The last thing I wrote before coming to class today was writing down notes for my math class and looking through my homework. I gained feedback on how to write better notes during my lecture and discussions with the people around me. It helped me not only to keep myself organized but also to not scramble my assignments which will be easier for me to go back to my notes or add on any future follow up question I might have in the future. I know because I would like to go back and check my notes to make sure I'm doing it correctly other than having to stress out by doing the same problem question all over again. I chose to write about my achievement of successfully creating a way to write my math notes since it's a subject that takes me more to process it being in a bigger lecture halls as well as in general will give me the better of understanding things independently.

The last thing I wrote before coming to class was my Evolution of Dinosaurs (GEL 012) lecture 1 notes. In my notes, I wrote about paleobiology, hypotheses and theories, and the limitations/strengths of science. The audience was myself as they were my lecture notes. The main purpose of writing my notes was to be able to retain the information that my professor was lecturing about. I believe I didn't achieve my purpose since I haven't reviewed my notes as that's what helps me gain the information better. I don't think I could have achieved my purpose without writing since I don't do well just listening to the professor talk. I have to write down at the moment to be able to accomplish my purpose. That is also the same reasoning as to why I chose to write than doing something else.

My purpose was to have notes that I could look at in the future and to understand the lecture better. I did achieve my purpose because I wrote down everything that I needed and still remember the information from the lecture. I couldn't have achieved this purpose without writing. I chose to write instead anything else because it was the most convenient choice I had.

The last thing I wrote before coming to class today was a tweet on my private Twitter. I wrote, "I bully men for fun". My audience is my friends. The purpose of the text was to express my thoughts in that moment. I don't actually bully anyone and I am very against bullying or any kind of discrimination. I respect everyone. I did achieve my purpose because I wrote it and left it at that. I couldn't have achieved my purpose without writing it because I feel like everyone has those moments where they have to share the stupidest or silliest thoughts either to friends, online, or on paper. I chose to write that and not anything else because an hour before that I ordered some shirts for myself that carried a common theme with the tweet.

The last thing I wrote before coming to class today was my notes for my Greek Mythology course after yesterday's lecture. My audience was myself and my purpose was to write down the information that the professor had shared with us so I could come back to it at a later date and relearn it when needed. I achieved my purpose because I wrote down all the material my professor had shared with me in an orderly manner, which will make it easy for me to come back to when I need to study that day's lecture material. I think I could have achieved this purpose without writing by discussing the material with my classmates, but I believe that writing notes can be more beneficial than only discussing the material. This is because your notes will always be there for you to come back to if you need it later, but after the discussion you might forget what you discussed.

I wrote about how 60% of our body weight is water, the digestion system, and the nutrients presented in our bodies. My target audience is myself and the purpose is to used these notes to help me remember what was taught in class and for future references. I achieve my purpose because I can always look at my notes and it helps me remember what I learned. I wouldn't be able to achieve my purpose without writing. I chose to write because I feel like it feels me understand things better.

My audience is my teacher because I have to turn it in for her to read. My purpose was to write about an athlete and I think I did achieve my purpose because I was able to answer all the questions that were required when writing the short essay. I would not have been able to achieve this purpose without writing because my assignment would not have been done on time.

The journal entry was about how my first day of college went and what activities I have done so far since starting college. The audience was my professor and whoever is grading the assignment. The purpose was to describe how my first day college went and how my experience has been since coming to Davis. I achieved my purpose because I described in detail how my first day of college went in the assignment. I could have achieved this purpose if I made a video saying how my first day of college went, but I chose to write it because my professor wanted it written in a paragraph.

The last thing that wrote today was a text message to my friend who I went to the gym with last night The audience was only us too since it was through social media. The purpose of this text was ask if he was going to come through and play basketball and if he was going to invite more people so that we could get a lot more games and teams involved. Ultimately he ended up coming 30 minutes later and invited 10+ people with him. I chose to write about this because it was the last thing I wrote and also its serves as a reminder that you need to be patient in any situation.
