         <description><![CDATA[<div>some roman laws are still used today and  similar to the 12 tables,for example </div><ul><li>some of the ways you become a citizen are the same- (if you are born in the country you are a citizen, and so on)</li><li>One of the roman laws are that you are innocent until proven guilty, this law/rule is in use in most of the world.</li><li> Everyone is treated equally under the law </li><li>There is also a law for giving false witness- if you give false witness you could be punished</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>They did affect the world  </div><ul><li>the 12 tables are the base of the American law system </li><li>the 12 tables are tied into the idea of the civil law. </li><li>Some countries including South Africa and San Marino still base their current legal system on the civil law.  </li><li>law school students around the world are still required to study the Twelve Tables and other parts of Roman Law- this is to better understand the current legal system.</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There was a code</div><ul><li>Punishment was decided by two factors:  </li></ul><div>The social status of the condemned person and how bad the crime is.  <br>The punishment also depended on if the crime committed was in public or private.</div><div>usually public offenses were punishable by torture or death.  </div><div>Private offenses could usually be settled by a fee or forfeiting of your land.<br>Public punishment was used as a way to educate the citizens.  </div><ul><li>As for slaves usually their owner chose their punishment. </li></ul>]]></description>
