I watched my belly as it grew big. I held my hand on my stomach just to feel little kicks. We were one, you and I, at a moment in time. This was before we ever met eye to eye; before you joined the world, to grow on your own.

I heard your cry; on my chest you laid. Seeing your sweet face I knew from that day I loved you more than I ever could love myself. From baby food to little snacks I fed you until you could eat on your own.

From my arms you learned to crawl. With my fingers I helped you walk back when your hands were still so small. Behind you I followed, making sure you didn’t fall… until you could do it on your own.

Little feet running, trips and falls, back when a kiss fixed it all. I watched everywhere you went just in case something went wrong… until I knew you could do it on your own.

From sandboxes and swings, to bicycles and trampolines, I was always there if you were to fall. To be honest I needed that more than you needed me. It didn’t take long, you soon could do it all on your own.

Early mornings at the bus stop, kisses and I love you’s at bedtime.
