This book is a satire because it shows how competitive people can really get over something so small. This satire shows the weakness of Mr. Kong because he was so envious of Mr.Chen’s Mao button that he was willing to take all of his families Mao button just for one big one. This was horrible because his family could have gotten arrested for not wearing there Mao button. This book ridicules Mr. Kong and how stupid he was. The author is trying to tell us that all you have to do is ask and there are better chance that you might get want you want. I say this because after Mr.Kong asked Mrs. Kong, his wife, he received the big Mao button that he wanted the whole time. The author is a so trying to tell us that you don’t have to be jealous of what other people have.

The author of this story is ridiculing Mr. Kong and how his competitivity almost costs him his life, his good name, and, most importantly, his dignity. The author is trying to say that Mr. Kong let jealousy get the best of him. The author is also trying to say that he jumped to conclusions by making Mr. Chen his rival, before he even met him. The authors message for the reader is not to let jealousy take over your life, emotions, & the beloved ones around you.

This story is a satire because it is pointing out that people often get very over competitive. This story ridicules Mr. Kong, because he got over competitive, and lost his precious Mao button. The author’s message to the reader is that sometimes competition can turn into a bad thing. Kong almost lost his families’ Mao buttons and he dropped his precious Mao button, because he was so concerned on wearing it, all because of competition.

This story is a satire because it tells a story about how Kong wanted to outdo Mr Chen so badly that he almost sacrificed all of his family's Mao buttons just to get a bigger Mao button than Mr. Chen. They could have gotten in trouble if they were seen without there Mao buttons on. The author ridicules Kong and the message of the story is to not sacrifice many, many things just to outdo someone else.

The author is ridiculing Mr. Kong because his obsession with Mao buttons almost got his family's Mao buttons because he wanted the biggest one. The authors message is that sometimes competition is a bad thing when you take it too far. If you tell someone what you want they will probably be able to help you and you will get what you want easier than if you went through all that trouble.

Satire is a kind of writing that ridicules the follies and weaknesses of human beings. The satirist uses humor and irony to show the absurdity of something, such as a lifestyle or value, and to persuade the reader to examine the subject in a critical way. In what ways is this story a satire? What or whom does it ridicule and what do you think the author’s message is for the reader?

I feel like the author’s message is not to be careless and waste things and even put your child's life on the line for one thing that you want. Kong wanted 1 big Mao button for all of his Mao buttons including his wife's and his child's. So I think Kong can get greedy at times.
