They found themselves going on a trip but there was first no explanation to this trip.
 It seemed all set up and unexplained but planned. It wasn't exciting. Toans father had disappeared and later on Toan and the family had seen him come out of an expensive looking hotel while holding a paper in shook. 
The family had kept walking around for the rest of the afternoon in an orderly pattern over and over again. 
Than he came out of the hotel once again but things took a turn for the worse this hotel was a different one it was more fancier and larger than the others. 
When we had found the right hotel and then found out his trip had been cut short by an official and he was to return to the capital.
 Toans father had came a long way and realised it wasn't time to give up and he'd decided to take all his sacrifices to get what he's been striving for. And he had enough money for the bus ride to Kuala Lumpur. 
The risks that they had found hard to complete was because they wanted a better life and wanted to leave what they had behind

Chapter 12 is about Cang and his gang in more depth with Linh seeing a different side of Cang that Phuong has never seen before. The killing of a man not only changes a mind of a person but also a 9 year old watching from the sideline. Toan meets his best friend, Kieu, in Cabramatta after not seeing each other for 10 years.
