The Holodomor genocide is significant in many ways. According to ABC-Clio, "Estimates regarding the number of Ukrainians who died in the Holodomor range from 3 million to 8 million. The Holodomor has been recognized by today’s Ukraine and over a dozen other countries as a genocide of the Ukrainian people carried out by the Soviet Union. The Russian government continues to cite claims of a man-made famine as “falsifications of history.”" There were millions of people that were killed during the Holodomor Genocide.

The Holodomor genocide is significant in many ways. Britannica School states, "In 1932 the Soviet Union called for the arrest or execution of anyone found taking food from the fields where they worked. Military blockades were even built around Ukrainian villages to prevent the transport of food from the outside into villages. During the famine, about 25,000 Ukrainians died every day." The Soviet Union took away the food that the farmers produced and caused a huge famine.

The Holodomor genocide is significant in many ways. The History Place tells us that, "Ukraine’s estimated population of 36 million in 1947 was almost 5 million less than before the war. Because more than 700 cities and towns and 28,000 villages had been destroyed, 10 million people were left homeless. Only 20 percent of the industrial enterprises and 15 percent of agricultural equipment and machinery remained intact, and the transportation network was severely damaged. The material losses constituted an estimated 40 percent of Ukraine’s national wealth." This shows that there has been a massive decrease in Ukraine's population.

Stalin started a genocide in Holodomor for numerous reasons. World Without Genocide says,"Stalin and his followers were determined to teach Ukraine’s farmers “a lesson they would not forget” for resisting collectivization, which meant giving up their own land to work on government controlled farms. Moreover, the famine was meant to deal “a crushing blow” to any aspirations for independence from the Soviet Union by the Ukrainians, 80 percent of whom worked the land." He created a famine to teach the Ukrainians a lesson for not following the communist plan.

Stalin started a genocide in Holodomor for numerous reasons. World without Genocide states, "Through his collectivization policy, Stalin’s goal was to increase productivity from the farmers through eliminating small, privately-held farms and turning to mass agricultural policies. This resulted in the Soviet government seizing all privately owned farmland and livestock, which had a devastating effect on Ukrainians in a country where 80 percent of the people were traditional village farmers. Among the farmers, there was a class of people called Kulaks by the Communists. They were formerly wealthy farmers who owned relatively large farms or employed farm workers." Stalin created the genocide because the farmers resisted giving up their land.
