Netiquette refers to having good manners on the internet such as respecting others and being polite. Some places of social interaction on the internet are email, social media, and online chatting. We want to avoid the possibility of misinterpretations which can lead to hurting others. By following Netiquette communication becomes clearer.

CIPA is the children's internet protection act enacted by Congress in 2000 to address concerns about children's access to harmful content over the internet. CIPA imposes certain requirements on schools and local libraries that receive discounts for internet access. Schools and libraries are required to implement an internet safety policy such as; implementing safety and security measures when using electronic mail and chat rooms. These measures restrict minors access to materials that may be harmful to them.

Digital Law refers to the electronic responsibility for actions whether ethical or unethical.
1. Illegal file sharing: For example, sharing videos from YouTube and downloading the file from the internet to a computer
2. Downloading copyrighted music: For example, Using an illegal website to download songs to your devices.
3. Hacking: Unauthorized use of computer and network resources. For example, taking control of someone else's device without their permission. That is their own personal information and it should not be shared with anyone but themselves unless they allow it.

Our view of digital laws relationship to children is that school's should take matters into their own hands by creating courses that teach children to use the internet properly and safely. Teachers should promote technology in the classroom but be aware of the possibility of hacking, fraud, unnecessary downloading and illegal file sharing. Students now are surrounded by new technology and it is important that educators create a safe environment for the children.

My thoughts on the legal issues and safety in the classroom are that it is important that every child is engaging in something that is safe and age-appropriate. Technology is a huge part of children's lives in and outside of the classroom making it easier for them to come across something that is inappropriate. As a future educator, I think a good way to avoid this trouble is to monitor the students progress and make sure they do not have the ability to access sites that are dangerous.

First, I would ask what netiquette is. Assuming no one would know I would explain it to them and come up with a definition they would understand. I would have the students work in groups and come up with a list of "good manners". Then I would have them come up with what places on the internet should we have good manners. After discussing this I would show a video to the students. Once the video is over I would ask them to help me come up with "rules" there should be when we are using the internet. To sum the lesson up I would ask them how they would feel if people weren't being nice to them on the internet. By this, hopefully they would understand that it isn't right to not participate in having proper manners.

This project taught me many important factors that I will carry with me throughout my education and as a future educator. It is crucial that all educators are aware of the possibilities of fraud, hacking, and negative connotations that can go on throughout a classroom. One thing I learned is alternate ways to go about dealing with these possible scenarios. Whether that is teaching my students a lesson or giving pop quizzes regarding internet safety precautions. One thing I did not consider prior to doing this research is that it is possible that students can come across inappropriate websites in the classroom. I tend to forget that technology is so heavily used in elementary schools because I never had the opportunity to use technology so freely. That is something that is very new to me but this project has helped me understand how to deal with these situations appropriately. My research has strengthened my point of view and made me feel confident in my ability to avoid confronting my students for coming across inappropriate websites in the classroom.

This project has taught me a lot on internet safety. Growing up, all we were taught was to not bully others online or to talk to strangers. I did not realize how much there is to internet safety. This has changed my perspective and how I will teach internet safety not only to my students, but to my future children as well. I have learned a lot from researching this topic. Prior to this I had no idea what netiquette even was, I never knew there was even etiquette on how to behave online. For me I assumed it was common sense on how one should behave. I also did not even know there was a law regarding children's safety. I'm glad that my awareness has been changed for the better.

One lesson I could teach regarding the aspect of digital law would be to have my students watch an Internet Safety video and have them take down important takeaways. Then I would ask them to share what they wrote down. After having a class discussion on legal issues, I would ask my students to get into groups of four and act out a possible scenario referring to digital law. After they were all done acting, I would ask the students to guess what the group is acting out and why it is important to stay away from what they were acting out. My students would not only be masters of the internet after acting out the lesson but they would have fun being actors which will motivate them. I believe this lesson would be very beneficial and encourage my students safety on the internet.
