DuFu became associated with a group of high government officials, but he wasn't able to secure an official position for himself. Even though he showed great talent Du Fu failed the imperial examinations necessary for such a government post. After trying many other times, he was able to impress Emperor Xuanzong with his writing and gained a minor post at court, where he served with other well-known poets. This led him to create many of his pieces of work. (His work was created because he was very talented.) 

Li Bo was the most famous of the romantic poets during the Tang Dynasty in China. Li Bo traveled around China and at one point began studying Taoism while he stayed with a Taoist hermit. He went from place to place entertaining people with his verse, and he became a popular, if eccentric, societal figure. He was very unique compared to the other poets of his time, making him a favorite of the emperor. (His work was created because he was a very popular poet of his time.)
