Artefact 1: Into The Wood Vs Halifax

Artefact 1: Into The Wood

My first artefact is an Into The Wood video which I produced for Boreham Wood Vs Halifax on 14/09/2021.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86NaECDhVsk&t=42s

Reflection in action
-I really enjoyed filming this video. It was the first Into The Wood video I had produced, so I was doing something I had never done before. I was out of my comfort zone, not only filming a video I had never done but also filming for the first time for a professional industry and not for uni.
-Being my first Into the Wood video I wasn't sure on the timings of things such as when the players arrive, when they come out to warm up, when the fans arrive etc so I was a bit all over the place trying to be everywhere to make sure I captured all the footage I needed. Although it was stressful at the time, I stayed calm and got through it managing to get everything I needed.
-Filming this video I had to be creative and know what to film and more importantly what was worth filming. I had to think about the fans and what they really wanted to see. This is why I focused a lot on the behind the scene footage because this is what they can't see normally so will interest them most.
-When I was filming the fans I had to be alert at all times to make sure I was filming to catch their reactions to any goals and chants (Act immediately, Schon, 1987)
-I had to have knowledge of the equipment. After 2 years of being online at uni, I hadn't used any professional camera equipment for a very long time so I had to adapt to the situation and refresh my memory.

Reflection on action
-When filming this video there was one main problem. Due to me not using a camera for over 2 years as a result of the pandemic I didn't feel comfortable using it. So I decided to use my phone instead. Whilst half way through the second half the battery was running low and I still had the rest of the game plus post match footage to film. This has taught me that it would have saved a lot of time and stress if I had refreshed my memory with the camera instead of using my phone.
-Following on from this, as a result of me using my phone to film it meant that in order for me to be able to transfer it over onto my laptop to edit I had to film in sections otherwise the file was too big. This made me miss a crucial bit of footage of the fans celebrating a goal, as I had stopped filming at this point. Next time I do this I will use a camera to film as phones aren't practical enough when you want to film long duration videos.
-Another thing I would do Different is carry a note pad with me. So that I can jot down the exact time in the game when something significant happens such as a goal or the fans signing. This would have saved me a lot of time after when it come to the editing the footage as I wouldn't have had to go through the whole 90 minutes of the game. I could have just skipped to the timings I had wrote down.
-Next time I do an Into the Wood video I will be more confident with my filming. Looking back I could have got a lot closer contact with the players and pitch side more often to really give the fans a sense of belonging with the club (e.g. when the players walk out be pitch side)
-New info gain- use Kolbs & Gibbs: Description, Feelings, Evaluation, Analysis, Conclusion, Action Plan

Artefact 2: Teammates

Artefact 2: Teammates
My second artefact is a Teammates video. On 23/09/21 I filmed a Teammates video for Boreham Wood's Youtube channel.

Reflection in action
-Filming the teammates video was a great experience as I normally only film short duration videos of around 2-5 minutes but this one was 12 minutes long.
-The teammates video was completely different to what I normally film for our Into The Wood videos. This video was more interactive and entertaining, rather than a serious football focused one.
-I was excited about filming this video as it was originally my idea which the club went ahead with to do so I felt really proud.
-When filming I had to think about the different angle shots I wanted to get of the two players. So I had one camera on a tripod filming them front on, then I would move around and get side angle shots so we had a variety not just them staring straight down the camera.
-When it come to editing all the footage together I felt at confident as this is where I excel. However for this video I had to go beyond this and use photoshop to produce graphics. I had never used photoshop before so I was very worried and didn’t feel comfortable doing this.

Reflection on action
-Looking back at the video I wish I got more B-roll footage of the two players messing around, talking to one another etc as I feel like this would have made the fans feel more in touch with the players seeing a side to them they don't normally on the pitch.
-Producing this video has taught me that I want to improve on my photoshop skills. Doing the graphics has definitely made me realise that I need more knowledge and skill in this field. So I’m going to teach myself by watching Youtube videos and practicing.

Artefact 3: Into The Wood
My third artefact is an Into The Wood video which I produced for Boreham Wood Vs Yeovil Town on 25/09/21.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJrg6MyjwGo&t=5s

Reflection in action
-I enjoyed the experience of filming this Into The Wood video, as it was the second one I had done so I felt a lot more confident.
-I knew what to shoot and the timings of things e.g. when the players arrived, fans turning up etc
-The footage I captured was good because I had a better understanding now of what the fans wanted to see.
-I also felt more confident in my filming ability and getting closer to the players.

Reflection on action
-Next time I do an Into The Wood video i'm going to over shoot everything as I didn't have enough B-roll footage. I have learnt that it's better to have too much footage than not enough (I didn't capture any footage of the changing room so I had to use old footage).
-I have also learnt don't be afraid to ask people to do things more than once. When I was filming the first lot of players arriving I hadn't pressed record yet so I just missed them walking in, if I had just asked for them to go back out and walk in again I could have still captured the footage I needed.

Such as having a note pad to jot down timings and a portable charger for if my phone needs charging.

Reflection on action
-Due to my uni commitments I ended up editing this video a lot later than I should have. By the time I had finished editing it we had already played another game (Barnet in the forth round of the FA Cup). The video still went out, however, this has taught me to organise my time better.
-Next time I film I need to go out of my comfort zone and use the proper camera.

Artefact 5: Tv Show- This Is Our Game

Artefact 5: TV Show
My fifth artefact is a group Tv Show. Our initial idea is to produce a Tv show on the growth of women's football. We will be interviewing a football Historian named Bilinda, and a current Reading Women's WSL player named Lily Woodham so we can get an insight from two different people. One who knows the history of football dated as far back as the 1900s and a player today, so we can identify and highlight the changes which have happened over time.

My group and I have got in contact with our interviewees and have arranged for our first interview to be with Lily Woodham 29/10/21 at 1 o'clock in a box at Wembley stadium. Our next interview with Bilina is 03/11/21 early afternoon at the National Football Museum in Manchester.

We also got in contact with another football historian called Jean Williams to interview for our Tv Show. However, she isn't local so we have decided it would be best to do an interview on a Zoom call instead. This will be happening on Wednesday 27th October at 4:00pm.

Reflection in action
-My group and I have decided on what we want to do for our Tv show, so we have made contacts straight away. To Bilina who is a Football Historian and Lily Woodham who is a current WSL player for Reading.
-As a group we decided on our roles. For this Tv Show myself and Katie will be the presenters. We spoke and thought hard as a group to come up with the roles, discussing our strengths and weaknesses to make sure everyone was given the best role that suited them to ensure we would perform to our best.
-I feel very happy with where we are as a group, we are in a good position with everything lined up.
-We have got in contact with another football historian called Jean Williams to interview for our Tv show. Jean isn't local so we can't meet in person, so we have arranged to have a zoom call with her on Wednesday 27th October.
-Our interview was booked in with Lily for Friday 29th October, however she has had to cancel due to football commitments so we have had to reschedule for the following week (November 5th). I'm a bit worried as it's put us behind schedule now, we're pushing closer to the deadline and still don't have our first interview.
-27.10.2021 interview with Jean over zoom.
-03.11.21 interview with Bilinda at the National Football Museum in Manchester.
-05.11.21 today we are interviewing Reading Ladies player Lily Woodham, in one of the boxes at Wembley. I will be doing the interview.
-27.10.2021, we had our first interview with football historian Jean. It went really well she was able to answer all our questions and give us even more detail which has put us in a good position because we have a lot of good quality content to pick from.

-Due to Jean living in Loughborough we wasn’t able to meet up in person to interview her, but due to COVID and being online for over a year we had been taught how to interview over zoom.

-03.11.21 today my group interviewed football historian Bilinda at the National Football Museum. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go as I was meeting with my subject for my documentary, but they reported back to me they it went really well. She answered all the questions and they got some really good footage of the museum to add to our package.
-05.11.21 the interview itself with Lily went really well. I was the interviewer for this one as I wasn’t able to attend the interview with Belinda so it was fair to spread the roles out.
-15.11.21 today my group and I met up to write our running order and script for the TV show as we will be filming it tomorrow in the studio. I'm really excited as i'm the presenter so to be able to have this opportunity to present in the studios is a great experience. Also using the professional camera equipment and auto cue etc gives me preparation and an insight into the broadcasting industry.
-16.11.21 Today we presented for our Tv Show. I really enjoyed being the presenter for this project as presenting is something I want to pursue further so getting this experience under my belt is crucial. It was great to be able to be in the studio and get to finally use all the professional equipment. Overall, the Tv show went really well and I feel a lot more confident working in a studio.

Reflection on action
-When Lily arrived we wasn't set up or tested out the camera which delayed the interview and made it look quite unprofessional. When I next to an interview I will allow myself enough time before to set up the equipment.

Artefact 8: Inside Rangers

Artefact 7: Inside rangers 19/11/21

Reflection in action
- 19.10.21, today we were assigned our roles for Inside Rangers. My role is producer for the audio Inside Rangers project. I’m very happy with my role as I like having a leadership role and overseeing what’s going on because I’m very organised and good with time management.
-Once being assigned our roles and being set what to do we got started by making contact with Social Media Manager Andy Watkins to arrange dates and times with the individuals we want to interview. We have arranged for our first interview to be with ex QPR player Andy Sinton on 08.11.21 between 2-3pm over zoom.
-02.11.21 my group and I had a zoom meeting this evening to run through everything and make sure everyone is doing what they should be at this point. The producers are having a meeting on Thursday to get the running order together for the script writers by Friday.
-My group and I have our second interview arranged with QPRs under 18s for Thursday 11th November at 9 o’clock.
-I feel very happy with the way we’re working as a group. Everyone is doing their roles and we are on schedule and meeting deadlines for our individual tasks.
-Our final interview has been arranged with academy director Alex Carroll for 11.11.21 at 4pm.
-11.11.21 all our interviews have now been completed. We are meeting up as a team tomorrow (12.11.21) over zoom to discuss the next steps with the podcast. This meeting is mainly aimed at the presenters and content editors.
-I feel like I have performed very well as a producer. Ensuring that everything is running smoothly, organised and on time. I have also been making sure that i'm constantly in contact with others in the group just so we are all kept in the loop and don't lose communication.
-We have arranged 2 meetings but due to people in the group having work commitments these haven't been able to happen. I'm getting a little concerned because our podcast is due next week and we haven't decided what editor is editing what yet.
-Due to somethings still being in the air about who is editing what. Myself and Nicole who is also a producer decided which editor would be editing what interview. This enabled us to get things moving.
-18/11/21 today we finished our podcast. Overall i'm very happy with he outcome and how the group worked as a whole. Looking at my own individual performance i'm very happy with how I performed as a producer. I was very organised and made sure that everyone was satisfied and knew what they were doing so we could get the podcast finished by 19/11/21.
-19/11/21 after finishing the Inside Rangers Podcast yesterday, today we sent it over to our lecturer Mick to check over and approve. Mick has pointed out a few minor things which need to be changed. Therefore, we have arranged with all those involved in the changes to get those done today, so we can re submit tonight.

Reflection on action
-Overall, the Inside Rangers podcast was a huge success. We worked well as team and everyone fulfilled their roles. As producer I feel very satisfied, because when it comes to projects like this its not just about the presenters or reporters it's about everyone including those you don't hear such as the producers. With us producers arranging meets, making sure everyone met deadlines and was clear on what we was doing it wouldn't have run smoothly.
-Looking back, this project has taught me to speak up if there's something i'm not happy with or that could be done changed to make it better. If I had spoken up in the first place about minor things that I thought could have be changed in the podcast after first listening to it we wouldn't have had to it on the due date after Mick pointed them out. I didn't want to offend anyone in the group about the work they did, however, i've realised now it wouldn't have offended them it would have helped them and gave them something to improve on for next time. And saved the content editor a lot of time and stress not having to rush around on submission day.

Which I filmed on 06.11.21 for Boreham Wood's social media channels.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_js6DtkLvg

Reflection in action:
-I really enjoyed filming this video for the first round of the Emirates FA Cup. I hired out a camera from uni specifically to film this game and to practise my camera skills. When I arrived at Boreham and got the camera out to begin filming it had a battery fault so I was unable to use it. When I found this out I was quite frustrated because I was really excited to film an important game with professional equipment. However, I couldn't let this stop me from getting the content I needed so I had to use plan B which was my phone to film.
-Despite having problems with the camera I still enjoyed filming this video. Winning 2-0 and getting through to the second round was really special to be able to capture on camera from the start of the day with the players arriving through to the fans celebratory reactions at the end.

Reflection on action:
-I have learnt that it is essential to check your equipment before you go anywhere to film with it.
