In Matthew 5:13 we learn about salt. Salt is a token of a covenant. In the next verse, we learn about the symbolism of light. Light is a symbol of the mission of the early saints. It is also a symbol of “the children of light.” In Matthew 5 we learn of the importance of action and agency. When we make a covenant, we make a two way promise. We actively move forward in faith. We continue by growing our “light” and bringing others to the “light.” When we actively and steadfastly move forward in righteous decision making, we will see incredible rewards.
