Also in Bird In A Box, everybody bet on Joe Luis winning but he lost, everybody lost even more money than normal. Also, Willie likes boxing, so Willie didn't like it when Joe Luis lost. Hibernia thinks everybody betting on Joe Luis is stupid and Hibernia has to live on the roof of the church. Otis likes jokes and he is very humorous, his dad tells a whole bunch of jokes to cheer Otis up, and  his dad rides around everyday trying to look for a job. There is also a book called Bud Not Buddy, in one of the chapter's it talks all about the soup kitchen's, and there was a guy with a leather strap ready to slap a person who won't get out of the way. We would definitely recommend it. From this book we realized that the great depression was a famine in the United states caused by the dirt and soil turning into to dust the farmers crops were not getting grown and and up rotted because they didn't have enough nutrients to grow. We also realized that a dust bowl is not a real bowl, yet a place where there is a vegetation loss, soil has mean reduced to dust and eroded especially in a drought or bad forming. Its kinda like a dust storm and it leaves an awful mess. The problem in the book so far is that she can't live with her mom. That is it so far. By the way we are only at page 30. This book is in the past during the great depression. It is a great book!! People did not have enough food back then. We feel really bad for Kermit because he has a heart failure problem. The folks living in the dust bowl flee to the southern states cause there is more food there for them to eat and there are no dust storms and they can live a better life. Many people did not have houses and worked for other people because the jobs were down and America did not have enough money to support everyone. For example, Turtles mom. She works in a mansion as a maid, but the owner does not allow kids like Turtle to live in the mansion. It is an amazing book and would totally recommend it . It is a funny book and would entertain you . This book is great to read with your friends ! It describes how the great depression effected the turtle aka Archie I think  and her mom . To be honest in the beginning it is really confusing to understand and it is really sad and seems like it is not a good book but trust me when you get farther  into the book it gets super funny and it is not that sad anymore ! So I would really recommend this AMAZING TOTAL
