Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) is a personality test that uses black-and-white ambiguous pictures to assess one’s needs, motives and other psychoanalytic constructs by letting the clients create a story and interpreting the situation based on the TAT pictures that they were given. Yes! These pictures do tell who you are as a person based on your story-telling! ✍️

During the actual TAT session, questions are asked about the current situation of the picture, what happened before, the thoughts and feelings of the characters, and the outcomes of the situations. Clients are also encouraged to tell a story that has a beginning, middle and end.

For example, based on the given TAT picture for this activity, the story may sound like this:

A young ambitious woman will pursue her studies to become successful and support her family that lives in the countryside.

And many other versions! Because it all depends on how each person responds to the theme of the picture 🖼

Hope you get the idea of how TAT works! We hope for your participation in this activity and your story will be featured in our group presentation this Friday 👩‍🏫 Stay tuned!

The people behind the young woman are her slave-workers. The young woman owns the slave-workers. The book has a record of all her slave-workers' names. She wants to ensure everyone is present at work and she monitors it from the record in her book. "Get yer legs to work, mules! Better keep them running or else no bread for tonight!" says the young lady. Life is sad and woe is to them.

The older woman at the left is resting after long hours of labour. She is old, that is why. Old people cannot work for long hours because people are known to expire faster as they age. Also, she do not really look that old here; maybe about in her late forties, I believe. Nevertheless, bones crack and skin shrivels, unless of course, you are miraculously a Korean.

The man at the back is simply working. Slave-workers must work or else their owners will get mad. Being a slave-worker is not a very nice situation in anyone's life. If his owner is not giving out bread for dinner after working so much, he might have to slaughter the horse secretly to provide food for his family. Hopefully the owner-lady do not mind a missing horse. Nay I hope, as long as the horse does not "neigh," it should be a silent affair.

A young woman in the right picture looks kind of in a good mood I think. She holding a book so I assume that she loves to study or she is a student. On the left side of the picture, we can see a woman in middle age with a little bit sad facial. Look kind of worried about something maybe think about the financial crisis. Is the girl holding the book her daughter? She daughter? Is she worried about her daughter and like I said earlier, that girl is a student so maybe the mother thinking about how to find money to support her daughter's education?
