         <description><![CDATA[<p>Emmeline Pankhurst was born on July 14th, 1858, in Manchester to a politically active family.  Her family instilled progressive values, which inspired her to begin protesting for women's right to vote.  She married a progressive lawyer, Richard Pankhurst, who helped his wife's efforts by authoring the Married Women's Property Act of 1870, allowing women to legally inherit property.</p>]]></description>
