Treaty of Paris ends the seven years war between the French and the Native Americans. France gives all of its territories east of the Mississippi to Britain. Cost of the war and the cost to have an army will cause the British government to tax the colonists starting to strain the bonds between them.

Because of the taxes passed on paint, paper, tea, and other goods, British Troops come to Boston to enforce these acts and stop some of the colonists who have been acting radically. The people of Boston don’t like the troops being there which will lead to a street fight. This street fight will be called the Boston Masacre by the locals and the British will call it the incident on king street. This event led to the death of 5 people further straining the bond between Britain and the colonists.

British Parliament creates the coercive acts, known to the colonists as the intolerable acts which closed the port of Boston and forced the colonists to house British troops in taverns and vacant building. The acts create sympathy for Massachusetts from the other colonies

Shots fired at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts mark the beginning battles for American Revolution. The news of death in Massachusetts spread like a wild fire on the eastern shore causing many people to volunteer which was the first instance of the continental army

In the first major battle of the revolutionary war, colonial soldiers are able to hold off the veteran red coats for many hours at breed’s hill. Although they did lost the hill they showed everyone that the patriots aren’t afraid of the British.

Loyalists in the carolinas are defeated by an army of patriots at Moores Creek Bridge. This defeat will quiet loyalists in the carolinas for 3 years

The British launched an all day attack on Sullivan’s Island and the patriots guarding it. The British weren’t able to land on the island and the water frustrated the British navy. Eventually the fleet would retreat and South Carolina would remain untouched by the British for years to come.

The Declaration of Independence gets adopted by the Second Continental congress. After many years of oppressive taxes and a whole year of war, the founding fathers make a break with Britain. King George will not let his colonists go without a fight, and loyalist sentiment remains strong in many areas

On Christmas night, Washington moves his troops into New Jersey. The patriots then suprise a group of German soldiers who were fighting for the British on December 26. They also win a similar battle over British troops at Princeton on January 3, showing the colonists that the war might just be winnable.

An army of both French and American soldiers trap a large British army in the Yorktown peninsula. Because the British couldn’t leave or get reinforcement, the general of the British army surrendered. After this, the wars for American Independence was basically over
