Many girls were becoming ill and being diagnosed as a witch by a doctor because of their delusional episodes, the girls said it was because there were witches in the  town casting spells on them. After this many people were accused of being witches because of earlier disputes between land and such things like that. The women also wanted the attention so they were just accusing random women because they were very religious and women back then didn't get any recognition so the trials would spike an interest upon them as people.
