The other half I need to work on greens. 
The process for the most part was pretty challenging. Although we had all of that practice with shades, tints, and tones, it was still difficult for me to get the right colors for certain parts of the cake and the jelly on the cake. I’m kind of just going with the flow and trusting the process. Trusting that it will all make sense in the end. This is their adopted dog Ludo. This took a long time to do - I realize now just how small I made the pieces.

I learned how to understand abstraction a bit better. To be honest, while I was doing this piece, I did not think I was doing the original image justice and thought I was muddying the details too much. Even when I finished, it seemed like it wasn't good. It was only a few days later that I looked at it both from emotional and physical distance to see it more for what it is rather than my zoomed-in perspective. 

I am most pleased with the colors. The dog is a black dog in real life, but I wanted to avoid using black in the piece. Instead, I went with the blues and browns of the reflected light. I think what I wanted to do was achieved well. I figured it would serve as a perfect mosaic, and I had some hard-hitting nostalgia about them not too long before we were given the assignment. If I were to re-do the project, I'd give myself more time to produce the many values that are present in the original reference photo. I'd also cut the pieces of paper into a variety of shapes so that they're not all as uniform, this would make the mosaic a truer one. The most successful detail to me is the dark reddish-brown color along the top and bottom left corner.
