Auguste and Louis where the sons of a well known painter, they where both technically minded and had a talent for working with light manipulating technology, they began trying experiments and soon discovered a new revolutionary thing which assisted with photography called dry plating which was discovered by Louis, By 1894 the Lumières were producing around 15,000,000 plates a year, by early 1895 the brothers had invented their own device combining camera with printer and projector and called it the Cinématographe.
The brothers kept it a secret and organised screenings with invited guests to come and view the technological marvel, the first public screening occurred 21 march 1895 at 44 Rue de Rennes in Paris at an industrial meeting where a film especially for the occasion, workers leaveing the Lumiere factory, was shown.

The history of film started in 1890's when the motion picture cameras were made. in the 1927 the first film was made but it did not come with sound. first rotating camera for taking panning shot was built in 1898. The first film studios were built in 1897. The first use of animation in movies was in 1899. Film was used in war time as propaganda to get young youths to go into the army for specific important jobs such as being an engineer or joining the air force. The 1950's was named the Golden age of Film after the war as major film producers could finally start up their jobs after the war and they instantly got to work making films of all different kinds. it was in 1900 that continuity over successive shots was achieved and so movies such as a trip to the moon where made and one of the first horror movies using special effects was made called Nosferatu. The film The Great train Robbery was made in 1903 by Edwin S. Porter who made films for the Edison Company had a running time of twelve minutes.

Codes and conventions are used to bring emotion or feeling to an otherwise boring scene, for instance a scene can have a certain colour precent that invokes an emotion in the viewer, blue often invokes a feeling of calm in a person or a feeling of sadness while a red overlay or lighting invokes a feeling of anger or a sense of danger, the weather can also be used to give a scene some emotion, this is called patheticpkhalasy, for instance a character could be inside a cafe and it could be raining against the glass giving a feeling of sadness to the scene or at least suggest that the character is sad.
Other things used in film is accusations, for instance smoke is associated with fire so there could be smoke in a scene but no fire.
