Computer animation uses virtual models filmed in a digital space. Three-dimensional computer animation tends to involve a hybrid of workflows following traditional timelines adapted to working in a virtual three-dimensional space. If you're animating on-screen you're working with computer animation. Computer-generated animation is three-dimensional (3-D), meaning that objects and characters are modeled on a plane with an X, Y and Z axis. This means they can be rotated and viewed from any angle.
