For educational purposes

Most people jump to the conclusion that phones are just going to distract people but you can use a phone for educational purposes. Like if you ever needed to look a word up in google. Obviously theres dictionaries but that could take up a lot of time. And students don't really have much time to spare. You could also use your phone for research projects. Because using your phone would be 2x faster than using a slow chromebook provided by the school. You could also take notes on your phone, and since not all schools let their students take their chromebooks home the students could easily study on their phone.

In case of emergency

When you were younger you may have experienced a frightening situation. Perhaps something were to happen for example a code red or in other words an active shooter where to enter the school. Well there is no way to know or prevent those things from happening. But there is something that you could do right then and there that may save countless peoples lives. If a student has a phone on them then they could contact parents. Or they could dial 911 if needed. Or maybe it was a smaller emergency like a allergic reaction and the student needs to contact their parents but they don't remember their phone number. They could go to there contacts and find it. Problem solved.

To replace cromebooks

If we used our phones to replace chromebooks the school wouldn't have to pay as much money for the chromebooks and use the money for educational purposes. Stuff like book and supplies such as pencils and paper. But if we were at school and our chromebook died or we just forgot to charge it then we could pull out our phone and participate with that. There could also be something installed onto our phone to make sure we are only using it for school work and nothing else.

Introduction

Hello this is the introduction to our debate. My name is Kraeton Steppe, and my teammates that helped with this debate was Helen Craig, Fernando Nieto-Lopez, Ben Young, Ayla Langford and Sarah Joyner. Our debate will be about why kids should be able to have their phone with them at school.
According to Alyson Klein at edweek.org around 80% of schools have banned cell phones.
Obviously you can see that more than half of schools ban cell phones, and we believe that should be changed. It's important that this get discussed because there are many reasons that schools should allow cell phones. For example if there ever happened to be an emergency you can easily contact your parents or the number needed in that situation. Not only do they help out in emergencies they could also help with educational purposes.

Your family can install a app that lets you know where your child is at all times. "I just didn’t remove her; she didn’t ask me to. She said she doesn’t check the app very much and it’s mainly there just in case of an emergency."(Ohlheiser, Abby) so as if they go to a place without letting there parents know and they know that there safe.

In conclusion, we hope you realized that being able to use a phone in school can really impact the way you learn in school in a good way and some other things but what i'm getting at is you should be able to have your phone out wherever you choose and especially during lessons for educational purposes only of course and me and my team feel like it would just help in general for the students, teachers and the school and i hope you will agree with us in are very thought through decision because we do think it could really help the students with transportation with the device because chromebooks are just to big while on the other hand phones are smaller and easier to carry around and you can fit in in your pocket easily but with a chromebook you can not and there grades and many other thing in school and thanks for listening to are debate.

Helps with organization

"cell phones can help students stay organized and on top of tasks, homework, projects, and deadlines. For example, myHomework App is a cross-platform app that students can access on any device that offers a convenient and an alternative to the traditional paper planner. Students will receive notification reminders of upcoming deadlines, and they can easily input new assignments and projects as they come up." -Harriman, David. During the school season it's important to stay organized so that you can turn things in on time and keep a good grade in school. Your school may provide a app like powerschoool where you can keep track with your grades.
