Perhaps something were to happen for example a code red or in other words an active shooter where to enter the school. Well there is no way to know or prevent those things from happening. But there is something that you could do right then and there that may save countless peoples lives. If a student has a phone on them then they could contact parents. Or they could dial 911 if needed. Or maybe it was a smaller emergency like a allergic reaction and the student needs to contact their parents but they don't remember their phone number. They could go to there contacts and find it. Our debate will be about why kids should be able to have their phone with them at school.
According to  Alyson Klein at edweek.org  around 80% of schools have banned cell phones. 
Obviously you can see that more than half of schools ban cell phones, and we believe that should be changed. It's important that this get discussed because there are many reasons that schools should allow cell phones. For example if there ever happened to be an emergency you can easily contact your parents or the number needed in that situation.
