The goal of CBI is to prepare students to acquire the language while using the context of any subject matter so that students learn the language by using it within that specific context.

TEACHER ROLE
A content-based teaching approach focuses on teaching something to students after they learn about it, while language learning objectives are achieved after they have learned the content.
STUDENT ROLE
The focus of content-based instruction is to increase student interest, engagement, and motivation. CBI moves away from traditional language learning (translations and rote memorization) and focuses on different topics or ''content'' to practice language skills.

In order to do this, they need to communicate. Once the task is complete, then the teacher discusses the language used.

A Task-Based approach offers an alternative for teachers who are interested in creating a more student-centered environment in their classroom.

TEACHER ROLE
Is to prepare, guide, and support their class to help them understand and practice the language needed for the task. With their teacher's support, learners can experiment and dive into their studies, while working on the correctness of the language used.
STUDENT ROLE
During task-based learning, students solve tasks that are relevant and interesting to them. In order to solve the task, they need to use the target language they're learning to communicate with their peers.   • Read short stories written for native speakers: Reading books with children helps develop their language skills by: Increasing their exposure to language. Stories that rhyme are very helpful for teaching speech and language skills and can help children discover a love of language.

    • Listen to songs sung in English:  learning English with songs will help you improve your listening and speaking skills, vocabulary and pronunciation. It'll teach you words and phrases that you would never learn in the classroom! And, most importantly, it'll make learning English really enjoyable and fun.

    • Try a podcast on a topic that interests your students: Educational podcasts are appealing and may encourage students who don't like reading. Many students may struggle with reading through mental impairments, such as Dyslexia, and podcasts can be a big aid in this. Podcasts are equally useful in cases where a visual impairment makes traditional learning methods arduous.

  • Job interview: Task-oriented questions are designed to assess your ability to get things done, both independently and as part of a team. They also give the interviewer a sense of how you would approach the tasks and responsibilities associated with the role.

    • Roleplaying: Role-play is an excellent way of getting your students to practice their English. They simulate real-life situations and allow them to act out what they would do in a real situation.


    • Writing activities:  in the classroom, task based writing is often a solution oriented activity used to complete a larger lesson. This usually involves the student receiving a briefing about the process; a goal oriented writing piece, and a full review of the steps taken to complete the task.
