One of the ways the  x factor includes genre conventions is by using drama for example sob stories before the contestant goes to audition.  It cuts between different shot types and angles of the act , then too the judges faces so we are able to see their facial expression and know if there enjoying the audition or not.For example in Sean and Connor price's audition when the have started singing they film them but then cut to simon Cowell so we are able to see what he might be thinking of there performance. It will also cut to clips of there family backstage. This is done to keep the audiences attention and keep them interested in the show. it could become a bit boring if the camera is constantly on the person auditioning and only using the same shot.The desk is a big enough size that when all four judges are shown it crosses the whole of the shot so we dont see the end of it.close ups have been used  to show the emotion on the singers faces while they are singing. They have also been used to see the emotion on  the judges faces so the audience know if they like the act or not. The vision mixer cuts quickly so that we are able to see the audition from a range of different angles and so we can see a few close ups of one or two of the judges while the audition is happening. During the Xfactor they get shots of 4 different pieces of action and put them together.They will film the act auditioning, the judges , the host plus family and they will also film the other people waiting to audition. They then edit all the clips together so that were not just watching the act the whole time. In some of the auditions you can see that a crane has been used and is focusing mainly on the judges. This could have been done so that it is easier for them to move to each judge smoothly. A hand held camera would have probably been used when filming the host and the acts family as they were only filmed from one type of shot. The show cuts from one clip to another then back to the next bit of the first clip.This is done to keep the audiences interest they also will try to create suspense to keep the audience hooked by using intense music while the act are waiting to see if they got through and they will include longer clips of the act and judges to help create suspense.  The constraints of using a television studio is that in some cases there might not be much room to move around and get multiple different shot types of the acts and judges. For example other shows in the genre do the same like : Alan Carr chatty man and the Johnathon Ross show. Its also conventional of the show to include a live performance at the end of the show which this one does. The stage is quite big as it needs to fit in three different segments : graham talking at the start of the show , then when  he has walked over to the couch were he talks to the guests and then at the end when there is a live performance. These are all done in different parts of the stage.For the majority of the show they use both mid and long shots.It does not go back stage at all. It mainly sticks to were the interviews take place and just cuts to different angles. For example in Grahams interview with Karen Gillan , Alan Davies and Jennifer Lopez when Graham is talking to the guests it will show a close up of the guest who is talking and then a long shot of all three guests .The only time in moves away from there is near the end of the show when there is a live performance.  To film the show both hand held cameras and a crane have been used. A crane is used when Graham runs down the stairs at the start of the show and at the beginning when he talks about the guests he has that are coming on the show. But in this part of  the show it seems to cut between both types of camera( crane and hand held). The hand held camera is used when Graham Norton is talking.It then switches to the crane when he is talking but there is as picture of what he is talking about on the screen next to him. close ups have been used to create meaning as they have been used for the guests when Graham asks them a question or makes a joke about them. This type of shot has been used to capture there emotion and get the audience to focus on them when they are answering the question.The vision mixer has cut slowly so that we see the person talking and it doesn't cut to anyone else while they are mid sentence . To maintain the audience interest they use different shot types so that we are not just watching the same thing for the amount of time its on as it could become very boring. Pictures have been included to make it more interesting and so that the audience can actually see what they are talking about. In this case a constraint of using a television studio that there is a live audience.most of the show is done at the left side of the studio and it only goes to the right side of the studio when there is  a live performance. This uses genre conventions because we see both shots of the crowd and the act on stage. The stage that the acts perform on is quite big so that  the band are able to move round easily. also there are massive screens on either side of the stage so that people who are really far behind can see whats going on. on the the BBC coverage of Glastonbury we see the acts on stage , the crowd , interviews (sometimes in a studio) and acoustic performances. A lot of the performances will have been filmed using a crane because this is one of the easiest ways to film a festival and get good shots without getting in the way of the crowd. In this clip of Metallica playing there song one at Glastonbury for 4:20 to 4:25 a crane is used to slowly move closer to the stage from half way through the crowd. Hand held cameras will have also been used when filming the staged. This will have been done to get shots of different members of the band or act. They will be getting the shots which the crane get. for example a close up on the drummer. Hand held cameras will have also been used to film the interviews and acoustic sets. The vision mixer cuts quite slowly but does cut quite a few times. This so were are able to see a decent amount of everything but it doesn't stay only on a few shots as this would be boring. The crowd does appear on the coverage of the bands/acts. This is so that we are able to see that they are enjoying it and also that the show is real, its not been staged. When acts and bands are being shown they wont show the whole of their set. They will only show a few songs. sometimes only one. it will then cut to an interview or an acoustic performance. This is so that the show is spread out a bit more and so that the audiences attention is still on the show. The constraints of filming at a music festival is that you cant control the lighting. if the weather is bad and cloudy and grey this could show.
