The author supports their idea in the article by using examples and facts to support their claim, The author states “Inmates in private prisons, as stated, usually have access to fewer services and support programs than public prisons. Examples of some of these supports include: Psychiatric help ,Job training , Education ,Affordable communication with families”from paragraph 4 this supports because it illustrates examples to prove that the author uses examples to support their claim, Based on the text” For example, a petty thief who is released from jail promptly steals something else the first day. It is a major problem in the United States. According to the Pew Center on the States, more than four in 10 criminals who are released from incarceration re-offend”.paragarah 3 This supports my claim because it shows that she is using examples to support her claims. Bonus: Based on the text “The issue is complex, but one of the main reasons recidivism is high in the United States is that some prisons want it to be. Private prisons in the United States are for-profit systems, meaning private prisons receive money from the government for each prisoner.”paragraph 2 (That proves that the author was using facts btw) I used this piece of evidence because it shows that she was using evidence to support her claim from

Restate and answer here! The author supports the idea of the article by giving us examples how the prison system is supposed to work and what's wrong with it
Cite your first piece of evidence here! (Start by writing: The author states, “In general, the primary purpose of prison has always been to punish people for a crime. However, clinical psychiatrist James Gilligan points out that punishment doesn’t work.”
Cite your second piece of evidence here! (Start by writing: The author also states, “ Gilligan states, “The idea of ‘teaching prisoners a lesson’ only teaches them to inflict pain because that is what they receive.” Gilligan argues that the purpose of prison should be to restrain the prisoners until they can re enter into society ready to make positive contributions to society”

The author supports this idea by using facts. According to the text, “ Private prisons in the United States are for-profit systems, meaning private prisons receive money from the government for each prisoner. This explains the author's thinking and why he wants to stop recidivism. According to the text, “ Inmates in private prisons, as stated, usually have access to fewer services and support programs than public prisons. This proves the authors point because of how many prisoners have personal stuff going on with themselves.
